The Sartell Paper Mill had a problem with pine pitch build-up on their valves. They looked to an inventive employee for a solution. His name was Matt DeZurik. Matt realized that if the sealing face of the plug could immediately pull away from the seat upon opening, the plug would avoid damage from pitch. He designed a valve with a segmented plug mounted on pivot bearings at each end of the shaft. The plug had a cam (eccentric) closure action against the raised body seat – a revolutionary development at the time. From that beginning, the DeZURIK Eccentric Valve was born in 1928. Paper manufacturers immediately recognized its advantages and sent in their orders.

Today DeZURIK is the innovative global leader in valve technologies for water and wastewater treatment as well as industrial applications including pulp and paper, chemical and petrochemical, power, mining and other process industries.
