Salary: The previously determined range for this position was $35.76/hr to $73.78/hr*. Final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. Position Summary
The Administrative Nurse III (Nurse Manager) is accountable and responsible for providing oversight of the department day to day operations. The Nurse Manager participates in evaluative research, teaching, prioritizing patient needs, and providing leadership with resource utilization. The Nurse Manager serves as a resource for physicians, nursing and support services. The Nurse Manager identifies strategies to monitor and evaluate resource management decisions, process improvement and quality initiatives in the department. The Nurse Manager relates effectively with department team members for high quality delivery of services and maintains high quality relations with other departments and nursing units. The Nurse Manager participates in all mandatory education requirements, maintenance of records and updating of policies, procedures and skills of personnel in the department.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to create a work environment that engages staff in the attainment of department and organizational goals and vision while promoting high quality, safe patient care and maximizing patient flow.
  • Provides clinical guidance during the staffing process and assists in long range planning for resource distribution prioritization.
  • Participates in the development and training of staff ensuring a common understanding of clinical and technical knowledge is gained. Assists with the assessment of learning/educational needs of staff and the development of teaching tools to meet identified needs.
  • Evaluates and assists in data gathering to identify-major issues related to delays, unanticipated events, and trends in patient care for enterprise-wide or service line/unit/clinic level problem solving. Either directly within the department or in combination with other functional areas/ groups for scheduling.
  • Assign, direct and review the work of subordinate supervisors/other nursing personnel.
  • Prepare formal answers to, and recommend the adjustment of, grievances and disciplinary matters.
  • Participates in reviewing, monitoring, developing, and implementing quality indicators that include appropriate quality benchmarks and best practices. Helping make sure the organization is meeting compliance standards. Evaluates practice protocols and procedures using quality care and cost outcome indictors.
  • Serving both internally and externally as a resource.
  • Establishment of regular communication processes with physicians, nurses, and management to review status, variances, resolutions as needed.
  • Identifies and utilizes strategies to monitor and evaluate resource management decisions on quality and timeliness for supplemental staff requests.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
      1. Three years of professional nursing experience.
      2. OR
      3. Two years of professional nursing experience and one year of related advanced education.
    2. Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications
    3. Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers
    4. Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training
    5. Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Clinical experience, preferably in an academic health care setting.
    • Minimum of two to three years' experience in nursing leadership/management.
    • Master's Degree preferred in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Business.
    • Two years of related relevant clinical experience.
    • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and health care providers.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to lead and manage change. Is self-directed and works well in groups/teams exercising sound clinical judgement.
    • Advanced computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
