The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on Cook County Health (CCH) policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at CCH. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

JOB SUMMARY NON-UNION


The Certified Health Information Management Technician is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate completion of medical record documentation by performing various technical duties including physician & patient support, record analysis, master patient index maintenance, medical record merges, release of information & audit support, document imaging & scanning, and other functions.

Typical Duties



  • Analyzes medical records for required content, signatures and searches for documentation required for record completion.
  • Ensures the quality of health information verifying the completeness, accuracy, and proper entry into the Electronic Health Record systems.
  • Uses computer applications to assemble and analyze patient data for the purpose of improving patient care or controlling costs.
  • Maintains Physician deficiency/delinquent reports for incomplete documentation for record completion, coding, and reimbursement.
  • Processes and compiles statistics for delinquency reporting.
  • Maintains transcription interfaces and corrections of errors to prevent loss report interfaces.
  • Reviews daily discharged, not final billed (DNFB) bill hold report to ensure timely filing for insurance payer accounts.
  • Generates and verifies the accuracy of reports as requested and required.
  • Picks up medical record documents from the hospital's units/floors and transports to 1340 S. Damen Avenue to be scanned and included in the electronic health records.
  • Picks up Medical Record documents from clinical areas in Correctional environment.
  • Adheres to the Department of Corrections rules and regulations.
  • Follows record retention guidelines and prepares records and scanned documents for destruction.
  • Assists with record retention record purging.
  • Maintains online continuity of care referral documents to support Meaningful Use requirements.
  • Maintains demographic corrections-i.e. name, date of birth, address, social security numbers.
  • Maintains merges of duplicate medical record numbers.
  • Maintains Cerner Physician document refusal pool.
  • Maintains patient portal requests for protected health information.




Minimum Qualifications



  • Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or Health Information Administration from an accredited college or university. (Must provide official transcripts at time of interview)
  • Credentialed by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). (Must provide proof at time of interview)
  • Two (2) years of experience in Health Information Management
  • Prior experience using and understanding Medical Terminology
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Record systems
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (Testing will be administered, 70% minimum proficiency rate is required)


Preferred Qualifications



  • Prior experience utilizing Cerner Electronic Health Record
