JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, in Hershey, PA is seeking part Research Assistants. Research Assistants conduct the research in compliance with the protocol and will see participants in the hospital and the community for study visits and assessments. They have the following responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Screen potential participants for eligibility
  • Meet with potential participants in the hospital to explain the study and conduct the informed consent process if the patient is interested in enrolling in the study. CRs and PCs will assist with this process
  • Conduct study visits and assessments in the hospital, community agencies, and the research site including study procedures (e.g., toxicology screening, pregnancy tests, and rapid HIV and HCV tests)
  • Conduct outreach to find participants who are lost to follow up.
  • Maintain participant study files
  • Assure the confidentiality of all participants and participant data
  • Perform other duties as requested

A Bachelor's Degree in Science or Social Science preferred along with an interest in working with hospitalized patients with substance use disorder. Tasks include:

-Recruit and schedule subjects for follow up study visits

-Maintain the participant database

-Material, conduct data collection, monitoring data for integrity

-Monitor safety and confidentiality of project and its participants

-Assist the principal Investigators with IRB amendments, continuations and renewals

--Ensure correct entry of all data and adherence to guidelines of study

Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) training provided and is required.

The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position:

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
