Jr/Assistant Specialist /Associate Specialist/Specialist

Job Description

A specialist position is available in Dr Shain's laboratory (https://shainlab.ucsf.edu/) in the UCSF Department of Dermatology. The position will support research projects involving the genomic study of human skin, with the overarching goal to better understand the biology of skin cancer. The specialist will perform standard molecular cell biology experiments including isolation of DNA and RNA from tissues and cells, PCR, single-cell based studies (both DNA- and RNA- single-cell sequencing), and spatial transcriptomics studies. We are looking for motivated candidates with the desire to work in a team at the frontier of research and precision medicine.

Required Qualifications:



  • Experience working in a genomics/molecular biology laboratory
  • Experience in cell culture and DNA/RNA isolation
  • Experience in single-cell-omic approaches
  • Experience in sample preparation for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) (e.g. library preparations)


Preferred Qualifications, particularly for more senior positions:



  • Experience in microscopy
  • Experience in R programming
  • Scientific curiosity and a strong motivation to contribute to the field
  • At least two (2) years of previous research experience


Education:



  • Junior Specialists must possess a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry or a related field or at least four years of research experience
  • Assistant Specialist must possess a master's degree or a baccalaureate degree in molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry or a related field with three or more years of research experience
  • Associate Specialist - Master's degree (or equivalent degree) in molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry or a related field or five to ten years of relevant experience.
  • Full Specialists must possess terminal degree (or equivalent degree) in molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry or a related field or ten or more years of relevant experience.
