Description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Clinical Counselor (Clinician) is responsible for the mental health assessments and providing ongoing counseling and crisis intervention services for all children within the Unaccompanied Children (UC) program. Additionally, the Clinical Counselor provides ongoing individual and group counseling sessions, screening for human trafficking concerns, and crisis intervention. The Clinical Counselor will work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to maintain a therapeutic and emotionally healing environment, establish treatment goals and assist in the child's adjustment to shelter placement.


Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Conducts mental health assessments; provides ongoing individual and group counseling services, screens for human trafficking concerns, and assess adjustment to shelter.



  • Document all mental health assessments for all children in care in accordance with ORR policies and procedures.



  • Provide a minimum of one weekly one-to-one counseling session (or more often if needed) and crisis intervention as needed.



  • Facilitate crisis intervention and develop behavioral and/or safety plans as needed.



  • Screen for human trafficking, coercion or child labor concerns.



  • Facilitate weekly educational and minor group counseling sessions.



  • Continually monitor the mental/emotional well-being of minors and elevate cases as needed.



  • Identify mental health needs, consult on high-risk cases for possible external third-party focused interventions, outpatient, or behavioral hospitalization services.



  • Maintain the UC case file on Vision Link, R: Drive, and UC Portal in accordance with ORR and Endeavors policies and procedures.



  • Attending all departmental and team meetings to ensure that up-to-date information is received and/or information on policy changes or practices is adhered.



  • Report significant incident reports (SIR) and child level events (CLE) in accordance with ORR policies and procedures.



  • Assure compliance with all ORR regulations and policies regarding required services to minors in care and qualifications of mental health employees.



  • Support, uphold and embody Endeavors corporate.



  • Support a culture of on-going learning through training and development sessions both internal and external (virtual) for staff.



  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: A master's degree or higher in Social Work, Psychology or a related mental health science field is required.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of experience working in the behavioral health field with specific work in mental health treatment for children. Experience in understanding the needs of migrant children, especially unaccompanied children, is required. Familiarity with governing policies of ORR a strong plus. In-depth knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and de-escalation techniques is required.

Experience with Non-violent Crisis Intervention and safe restraint, certification with CPI is preferred.

ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.

LICENSES: Driver's License with clear record. Have a current Texas license to practice psychology, social work or counseling, LCSW, LPC, LMSW, LMFT required. Applicants that are not licensed in Texas will be considered if they are eligible for Texas licensure.

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

OTHER: Clinical Counselor must be 21 years or older. Bilingual English/Spanish required. Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
