WGAL News 8, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate serving the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, PA market, is looking for a Sports Anchor/Reporter with a big personality, sharp instincts and the energy to bring sports stories to life across every platform.

The Susquehanna Valley sits at the center of an unusually rich sports landscape. Our viewers follow professional teams in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., giving WGAL a deep and varied lineup of pro sports to cover-alongside the high school teams, local independent teams and athletes our communities care about most. There is always a game, a fanbase or a compelling story to connect with. This journalist anchors sports during our weekend evening newscasts and reports three days during the week. The ideal candidate breaks significant sports news, finds fresh angles, and tells compelling human-interest stories. They are a confident, engaging presence on camera and a skilled storyteller on social media, with the creativity and know-how to make standout vertical video that connects with audiences where they are.

The Sports Anchor/Reporter develops exclusive stories, delivers energetic live reports and creates coverage that works on air, online and on social platforms. On-site attendance is required.

• Anchor sports segments during weekend evening newscasts with confidence, personality and polish.

• Plan, report and produce sports stories and special projects during the week.

• Develop stories with news managers and the sports team that go beyond the surface, offer distinctive enterprise angles and deliver exclusive content.

• Break significant sports news and cultivate compelling stories about teams, athletes and fans.

• Create engaging social media content, including vertical video, and contribute photos, video and text updates to mobile platforms throughout the day.

• Shoot, write and edit stories as needed.

• Build and maintain a strong network of sources who provide tips, early access to information and opportunities to break important stories.

• Balance multiple stories and projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Help the department plan coverage of major sporting events and take a lead role in sports specials.

• Make complex sports topics clear and accessible to a broad audience.

• Uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity and ethics.

• Strong on-camera presence and an engaging personality.

• Demonstrated ability to create compelling content for social media, especially vertical video.

• Ability to operate a news camera and editing equipment.

• Ability to work in all weather conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.

• Valid driver's license, clear driving record and ability to drive large vehicles over long distances.

• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends.

• Passion for sports journalism is required.

• Previous television sports experience is preferred.
