Threat Hunting Data Analyst

The Role

UST is searching for a Threat Hunting Data Analyst to support our Threat Hunting and Detection Program. This role focuses on using data analysis and foundational data science techniques to help identify suspicious patterns, improve detection quality, and enhance visibility across security telemetry. This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their cybersecurity or data science career who is eager to apply analytical thinking to real-world security challenges.

What You'll Do

* Analyze large datasets (endpoint, identity, cloud, network logs) to identify anomalies and trends

* Support development of data-driven hunting hypotheses.

* Assist in building and tuning detection logic within the SIEM (e.g., Sentinel).

* Perform basic statistical analysis and exploratory data analysis (EDA).

* Help normalize and structure security data for improved analysis.

* Track detection performance metrics (false positives, coverage, gaps).

* Collaborate with Threat Hunters and Incident Responders to refine analytics based on investigations.

What You Need

* 1-3 years of experience in data analytics, cybersecurity, or related technical field.

* Strong analytical mindset driven to deliver solutions to complex problems

* Experience with Python, KQL, SQL (basic scripting and data manipulation).

* Familiarity with log data or large datasets.

* Degree/Experience with Data Science

* Nice to Have: Exposure to SIEM tools (e.g., Microsoft Sentinel).

* Basic understanding of MITRE ATT&CK. Coursework or projects involving statistics or machine

Location & Compensation

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.

Role Location: Hybrid - New York, NY

Compensation Range: $55,000-$83,000

Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty.
