Engineering Manager - Data Platform & AI Engineering (Hybrid)

Securian Financial Group's internal position title is Engineering Manager.

Position Summary:

Join Securian's Enterprise Data and Analytics Platform Technology & Engineering (PTE) organization and lead the teams responsible for delivering the enterprise data and AI platforms that power analytics, machine learning, and business innovation. As Manager, Data Platform & AI Engineering, you will provide day-to-day leadership for engineers, drive delivery execution, ensure platform reliability, and build a culture of engineering excellence. This role combines people leadership, operational accountability, vendor management, and technical oversight to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Lead and develop a team of Data Platform and AI Engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Drive successful delivery of platform, data, and AI initiatives while managing priorities, risks, dependencies, and resource allocation.
• Oversee day-to-day platform operations, production support, incident response, and service reliability.
• Manage engineering capacity planning, staffing strategies, and workforce development.
• Serve as the primary relationship manager for engineering vendors, including phData, ensuring quality delivery and knowledge transfer.
• Lead platform upgrades, modernization efforts, lifecycle management, and production readiness activities.
• Establish and enforce engineering standards, development practices, operational procedures, and quality expectations.
• Partner with Architecture, Product, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
• Drive technical debt reduction strategies and platform health improvements to support long-term sustainability.
• Provide technical leadership and remove impediments to effective technology delivery aligned with business priorities and technology standards.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in software, data, platform, cloud, or AI engineering.
• 3+ years of people leadership experience managing technical teams.
• Experience leading delivery and operational support for enterprise technology platforms.
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms, DevOps, automation, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices.
• Experience managing vendors, consulting partners, and outsourced engineering teams.
• Proven ability to balance delivery commitments, operational excellence, and talent development.
• Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience leading Data Platform Engineering, AI Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or Cloud Engineering teams.
• Experience with Informatica, Reltio, Cloud Database platforms like Snowflake, AI/ML platforms, or modern data ecosystems.
• Financial services or regulated industry experience.
• Experience with platform modernization, engineering governance, and production operations.
• Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and product-based delivery models.
• Demonstrated success building and developing high-performing engineering teams.

#LI-Hybrid **This position will have a hybrid working arrangement, working in-office for a minimum of 3 days a week.**
