The Administration & Finance Division encompasses a broad range of operational, financial, technological, safety, administrative and people-focused units that support the daily functions and long-term success of the University.

Campus Safety and Auxiliary Services provides essential services supporting the safety, well-being, and daily needs of students, faculty, and staff. The department collaborates with the university community to provide safety and security, environmental health, emergency management, parking and transportation, print services, and bookstore services while using innovative technologies and efficient solutions to support student success and university operations.

The ECU Police Department provides the same level of service as a municipal police department, along with services unique to an academic institution. The department is responsible for the safety and well-being of the university community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The department works closely with administrators, students, faculty, and staff to create and maintain a secure campus environment. Our arrest jurisdiction includes all university property, as well as adjacent streets and sidewalks. Through mutual aid agreements with local departments, including the City of Greenville, officers also have jurisdiction throughout much of the surrounding area.

The position is that of a uniformed police officer performing standard law enforcement related duties on the University's campus. Reporting through a chain of command to the Chief of Police, police officers are responsible for enforcing state and local laws and University. Officers are empowered with full law enforcement authority and are charged with the responsibility of the apprehension of criminal offenders, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, and warrant/summons service. Officers have jurisdiction on all property that is owned, operated, or controlled by the University, as well as the streets or highways that are immediately adjacent to University property. Officers are responsible for deterring crime, maintaining the peace, protecting lives and property, proactive patrol, and responding to calls for service within the University community. This will be accomplished by such means as high visibility patrol, intervention in criminal acts in progress, and investigation of criminal violations, and other methods.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Minimum of High School diploma or GED. At least probationary certification from the NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer and successful completion of the appointing agency's designated field training program for newly appointed Campus Police Officers.

*Trainees will be considered but must have the ability to qualify for attendance at a State of North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training ( BLET) Academy including satisfying all relevant background check and physical agility requirements as required by the NC CJETSC and hiring agency.

Note: Outside lateral hires who are already sworn law enforcement officers at time of hire may be placed in any of the relevant career progression steps for Police Officer based on prior sworn experience. However, such appointment is conditional on successful completion of the agency's field training program. Out-of-state hires attainment of NC CJETSC certification within an agency-specified timeframe. An individual shall be eligible to apply up to three (3) years of experience as a United States military police enlisted member or officer to satisfy the experience requirements of a sworn UNC System campus LEO within the guidelines.

Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with provisions of the NC Criminal Justice & Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment. More information regarding the minimum standards for certification can be found here.
