Assistant Group Supervisor - Mission Area Operations

Tthe Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD) is seeking an Assistant Group Supervisor (AGS) for Mission Area Operations. In this leadership role, you will partner with the RA2 Group Supervisor, the AGS for Department Operations and Infrastructure, and Research and Exploratory Development (RED) Mission Area leadership to provide strategic direction for the Mission Area's business and operations organization. You will lead a team of financial and operations professionals responsible for financial management and operations, and other business operations functions that support the RED Mission Area.

Working closely with Mission Area leadership and APL Enterprise Service Departments, you will also serve as the Mission Area Business Manager, providing business leadership, aligning operational priorities with organizational objectives, and ensuring the Mission Area has the operation staff and processes needed to successfully execute its research mission. Through your leadership, you will strengthen organizational performance, foster collaboration across functional areas, and drive continuous improvement to enable exceptional support for RED MA Operations staff, program teams, and Department leadership.

As a an AGS for Mission Area Opertations you will...

• Serve as the Mission Area Business Manager and operations advisor to Mission Area leadership, providing guidance for financial management and business operations while ensuring effective stewardship of Mission Area resources.

• Partner with the RA2 Group Supervisor and Mission Area leadership to define, align, and execute the group's strategic vision.

• Partner with the Financial Management and Operations Management Section Supervisors to ensure the successful execution of Mission Area deliverables and work products.

• Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to the Mission Area's Financial Management and Operations Management teams in coordination with Section Supervisors, building leadership capability, organizational effectiveness, succession planning, and a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

• Lead the Mission Area's financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and business planning activities.

• Promote clear and effective communication across operations disciplines to ensure alignment and seamless execution of contractual, proposal, operations, and financial management tasks.

• Lead the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of key Mission Area financial and operational metrics to support executive decision-making, assess organizational performance, and identify risks and opportunities.

• Oversee workforce planning and resource allocation across the Mission Area's operations organization to ensure the organization is positioned to meet current and future mission needs.

• Cultivate exceptional partnerships with APL Enterprise Service Departments to support and enable the advancement of RED Mission Area priorities.

• Lead or support strategic Department initiatives and special projects that advance REDD's operational excellence and long-term objectives and other duties as assigned.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

• A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Management, or another relevant field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 2+ years of progressively responsible leadership experience in business operations or related management functions.
• A thorough understanding of UARC business practices and applicable government regulations.
• A demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop staff while cultivating strong relationships across the organization.
• Strong collaboration skills, sound judgment, and discretion.
• Demonstrated creative thinking and a commitment to continuous learning and growth.
• A demonstrated ability to make sound decisions under pressure and in the presence of uncertainty.
• A demonstrated ability to drive solutions while balancing perspectives.
• Exceptional integrity, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage all levels of staff and sponsors.
• A proven track record of building and leading high-performing, teams.
• Are able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

• 5+ years of experience as a Mission Area Operations Representative or Business Manager or oversight equivalent to these functions.

• A Master's degree (MBA or equivalent).

• Direct knowledge of REDD or APL operations and business practices.

• Demonstrated success leading organizational change and improving business processes.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
