POSITION SUMMARY
Applicants must have a current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record meeting KEMRON vehicle insurance requirements.
KEMRON Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to support environmental remediation, heavy construction, earthwork, and site-development projects.
This position safely operates excavators, bulldozers, loaders, motor graders, rollers, scrapers, articulated trucks, industrial tractors, cranes, clamshells, power shovels, and other equipment based on the operator's qualifications and project requirements.
This position requires frequent overnight and out-of-state travel for projects in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area and throughout New Jersey and New York. Project locations, schedules, durations, and start dates vary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
- Safely operate multiple types of heavy equipment of various sizes and capacities, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, rollers, scrapers, industrial tractors, cranes, clamshells, and power shovels.
- Excavate, load, grade, compact, clear, grub, backfill, and move soil, gravel, contaminated material, debris, and other materials.
- Establish required grades, slopes, elevations, cuts, and tolerances using grade stakes, slope stakes, construction specifications, plans, and blueprints.
- Load trucks safely and efficiently while coordinating with drivers, spotters, and site personnel.
- Operate equipment safely on rough terrain, slopes, excavation areas, active work zones, and confined project areas.
- Perform pre-use and daily inspections and basic preventive maintenance, including checking fluids, greasing, cleaning, and identifying repair needs.
- Make minor or emergency adjustments and repairs when qualified and authorized; promptly report defects, maintenance needs, equipment damage, and unsafe conditions.
- Assist with traffic-control devices and flagging and provide laborer or field-technician support when needed.
- Follow work plans, safety plans, project procedures, training, and supervisor instructions; immediately report incidents, injuries, property damage, and safety concerns.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of five years of experience operating heavy construction equipment.
- At least two years of experience in environmental construction, remediation, earthwork, or similar field construction is preferred.
- Considerable knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles, job-site hazards, and safe operating practices.
- Ability to work from construction specifications, plans, blueprints, and grade stakes and to establish required grades and cuts.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations, complete required written documentation, and understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to maintain dependable attendance and work independently or closely with site personnel without continuous supervision.
- Good judgment and the ability to remain alert to surrounding personnel, vehicles, equipment, and changing site conditions.
- Current Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work primarily at active outdoor construction and environmental-remediation sites in rain, extreme heat, cold, wet conditions, humidity, dust, mud, vibration, loud noise, and around hazardous materials and moving equipment.
- Maintain the eyesight, depth perception, hand-eye coordination, and constant awareness needed to operate hand and foot controls safely.
- Sit and operate equipment for prolonged periods and regularly stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, talk, listen, and use hands to operate tools and controls.
- Enter and exit heavy equipment repeatedly and walk safely over uneven, muddy, unstable, or sloped terrain.
- Frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds; perform manual work requiring periods of physical exertion.
- Wear required personal protective equipment and hearing protection for extended periods and use respiratory protection when required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent overnight and out-of-state travel is required.
- Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and adjusted schedules based on project requirements.
- Must pass required medical monitoring and HAZWOPER physical examinations.
- Must obtain medical clearance and complete fit testing for respiratory protection when required.
- Must read, understand, and follow KEMRON and project-specific Health and Safety Plans, standard operating procedures, and safety requirements.
