This is a position-specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) position/function only. All interested persons will need to re-apply for any future recruitment conducted for this classification.

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: The Structures Project Manager functions as a licensed professional engineer serving as a project engineer and design engineer for structural engineering assignments of varying size and complexity. Responsibilities include performing bridge and structure inspections; reviewing inspection reports; performing structural analyses and load ratings; evaluating structural and safety concerns; developing repair recommendations; designing structural repairs; preparing plans, specifications, construction sequences, and cost estimates; reviewing consultant work; coordinating permits and other approvals; and providing technical support during construction.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage a staff of professional engineers specializing in different disciplines of engineering and inspections, including proposal and invoice review;
  • Use the Authority Structure Inspection and Repair (ASIR) software to manage and schedule inspections;
  • Develop task order packages for structural repairs;
  • Perform inspections and evaluations of structures to identify defects and determine repairs;
  • Work with the Capital Program Manager to maintain familiarity with ongoing and proposed projects;
  • Work directly with the Operations and Construction Divisions to ensure repair and maintenance items are repaired in a timely manner; and
  • Manage the assignment of inspection and design projects to consultants.

Employees in this position will report directly to the Structures Inspection Program Manager. The current vacancy is in Baltimore, MD.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license, in the appropriate option, is required. Evidence of license must be presented at the time of appointment.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATION: **Two years of project management experience involving planning, coordination, and oversight of engineering, inspection, design, repair, or construction projects. Two years of experience conducting structural inspections, including evaluating bridges or other transportation structures, identifying deficiencies, and recommending repairs.

Selective Qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities). Licenses & Certifications

1. An applicant's current license as a Professional Engineer in a state with comparable requirements acceptable to the Maryland State Board for Professional Engineers, in the appropriate option for which application is made, will be accepted but the applicant must obtain a Maryland license within twelve (12) months of appointment. Evidence of out of state registration must be presented at time of appointment. Applicants must list the license number, state issued by, issue date, and expiration date on the application.

2. Employees in this classification are assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties are required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. Applicants must list the license number, class and expiration date on the application.

Notes:
1. Registration requirements are established under Title 14, Business Occupations and Professions Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

2. Employees of the Maryland Department of Transportation assigned to especially sensitive locations or facilities may be required to obtain and maintain a special security badge.
