Pay Transparency: The anticipated pay for new hires entering as a Dental Group Underwriter II is between $56,400 to $67,700 which is between the minimum and midpoint of the range. The full pay range is $56,000 to $78,000. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications, and company tenure & equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.

Group Underwriter II Overview

This position is responsible for conducting risk assessments and selection of relevant products for small to mid-sized market cases. The role produces rates for new groups and renewals using the company's proposal and renewal system. Additionally, the role prepares proposals and renewals based on information received from external sources using relevant software. The underwriter verifies rates on sold cases as required and completes financial exhibits following established guidelines and under the guidance of the Underwriting Manager or Supervisor.

Essential Duties:



  • Assesses risk and produces rates for new groups with moderate autonomy
  • Completes annual renewals for all products and performs related maintenance tasks
  • Services current group clients including benefit changes, reporting, and response to telephone and email inquiries
  • Verifies sold case data including final rating
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Moderate knowledge of group life, disability, dental, medical, and worksite products if applicable
  • Apply advanced techniques of underwriting principles and rating methodology
  • Intermediate to Advanced MS Office skills
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively establish priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously


Required Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 1 year underwriting experience
  • Or, equivalent military experience


Preferred Education and Experience:



  • LOMA, HIAA
  • 2+ years of underwriting experience
