At Novanta, our innovations power technology products that are transforming healthcare and advanced manufacturing-improving productivity, enhancing people's lives and redefining what's possible. We create for our global customers engineered components and sub-systems that deliver extreme precision and performance for a range of mission-critical applications-from minimally invasive surgery to robotics to 3D metal printing.

Novanta is one global team with over 26 offices located in The Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Looking for a great place to work? You have found it with a culture that embraces teamwork, collaboration and empowerment. Come explore Novanta.

Help keep innovative robotics products moving from engineering to production. As a Senior Buyer with ATI, part of Novanta's Robotics & Automation business unit, you'll secure the components, materials, and services our manufacturing teams depend on-balancing quality, availability, inventory, and total cost.

You'll strengthen supplier relationships, improve purchasing processes, and solve supply challenges. Reporting directly to the Supply Chain Manager and receiving tactical direction from an ATI Commodity Manager, you'll work closely with engineering, materials planning, and quality teams.

Make an impact across the supply chain
  • Turn demand into reliable supply. Process purchase orders using internal customer requirements and MRP planning data, purchasing assigned commodities cost-effectively from qualified suppliers in accordance with company processes and procedures.
  • Negotiate for quality and total value. Solicit bids, analyze quotations, select or recommend suppliers, and negotiate purchase agreements that deliver the highest quality at the lowest total cost.
  • Connect engineering and supplier expertise. Help review drawings and specifications, and seek supplier recommendations that reduce lead times, lower costs, and improve products.
  • Support production through effective purchasing. Work with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and materials planning to establish purchase agreements and processes that improve on-time delivery, reduce lead times, prevent excess inventory, and increase inventory turns.
  • Take ownership of supply challenges. Question processes that aren't delivering results, develop strategies and recovery plans for part shortages, and coordinate across teams to meet customer delivery expectations.
  • Strengthen the supplier base. Research and develop sources for assigned commodities, monitor long-term supply and pricing trends, and pursue continuous improvement toward 100% on-time delivery and quality.
  • Support sourcing decisions. Partner with the Commodity Manager and Quality team on sourcing initiatives.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities and performance. Meet with current and prospective suppliers to assess production capacity, quality systems, internal engineering capabilities, financial status, and their ability to meet ATI requirements. Review delivery and quality performance with existing suppliers.
  • Deliver purchasing improvements. Drive cost reduction projects that improve purchase price variance (PPV) and reduce overall material spend. Systematically analyze and reduce the supply base to maximize cost-effective purchasing through economic order quantities (EOQ).

What you'll bring
  • Five or more years of purchasing or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • A bachelor's degree in a business or technical field.
  • Hands-on experience with an ERP system.
  • Proven ability to maintain material availability while reducing inventory and increasing inventory turns.
  • Experience driving cost reduction projects and systematically evaluating the supply base.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative approach, strong computer skills, and clear written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business conditions.
  • Working experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma environments.

Previous experience sourcing or procuring printed circuit boards and components is highly preferred, as this will be the position's initial focus.

APICS certification is desirable. International purchasing experience is a plus, and previous experience with the Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) process is preferred.
