We are seeking a Design-Build Coordinator to support the planning, development, and execution of alternative delivery projects. This role serves as a key liaison between design teams, operations, estimating, project management, and clients to ensure projects are coordinated efficiently from proposal development through construction. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses strong organizational and communication skills, and has a passion for delivering innovative heavy civil infrastructure projects.
Position Overview
The Design-Build Coordinator supports the successful delivery of design-build and other alternative delivery projects by coordinating design efforts, managing project information, facilitating communication between stakeholders, and assisting with preconstruction and project execution activities. This role helps bridge the gap between engineering design and construction operations to improve constructability, minimize risk, and support successful project outcomes.
Essential Responsibilities
Design Coordination
- Coordinate communication between engineers, designers, project managers, estimators, and field operations teams.
- Assist with design reviews and constructability evaluations.
- Track design milestones, deliverables, reviews, and approvals.
- Organize and maintain project documentation, drawings, specifications, and design records.
- Support interdisciplinary coordination efforts to identify and resolve design conflicts.
Preconstruction Support
- Assist with proposal development, RFQ/RFP responses, and interview preparation.
- Coordinate collection of technical information for estimates, schedules, and proposals.
- Support value engineering and risk assessment efforts.
- Assist with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor outreach, and procurement planning.
- Help facilitate design-build pursuit meetings and strategy sessions.
Project Execution Support
- Track project schedules, action items, and key deliverables.
- Coordinate meetings with owners, consultants, utility companies, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Maintain meeting minutes and follow-up on assigned tasks.
- Assist with permit tracking and agency coordination.
- Support change management processes and project reporting.
Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as a point of contact for project information and coordination activities.
- Facilitate collaboration among internal and external stakeholders.
- Support client communications and project presentations.
- Help maintain positive working relationships with owners, design partners, and regulatory agencies.
Safety & Quality
- Promote Ames' commitment to safety throughout project planning and execution.
- Support quality control processes and documentation requirements.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, contractual obligations, and company standards.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, engineering, design coordination, project engineering, or preconstruction.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred
- Experience with Design-Build, CMGC, Progressive Design-Build, or other alternative delivery methods.
- Familiarity with transportation, bridge, civil, water, utility, or infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of scheduling software, project management platforms, and construction document control systems.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
Working Conditions
- Travel may be required based on project assignments.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and navigate active construction sites.
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
