Job Summary About this role:The malignant hematology oncology PA provides comprehensiveambulatory care to one or more disease specific medical oncology patient populations. Withan interdisciplinary teamapproach, this provider promotesacollaborative relationship betweenall providers, professional nurses,andadministrative staff, to ensure continuity of patient careand efficient use of resources. The PA is responsible for theassessmentand management of medical malignant hematology oncology patients, including diagnosticand therapeutic interventionsand developmentand implementation ofappropriate plans of careacross the trajectory of illness for patients. The malignanthematology oncology PA will assist in providing continuity support in the event of a patient admission in order to advance the plan of care. Inaddition to providing directand indirect patient care, the malignant hematology oncology PA servesasarole model for professionaladvanced practiceand participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or qualityand safety initiatives. The hematology oncologyPA will provide thorough, compassionate, culturally sensitive clinical careand should demonstrate operational flexibilityand strong leadership, problem-solving,and communication skills in order to work effectively with other members of the team. -Performs comprehensive historiesand physical examinations. -Completes high qualityand timely documentation. - Participates in scheduled encounters, maintains capacity for urgent care for the evaluation for complex symptom evaluationand managementand improvesaccess for newly diagnosed hematology oncology patients. -Orders, interprets,and evaluatesappropriate laboratoryand diagnostic tests. -Ensuesappropriate diagnostic procedures occur inatimely manner through careful coordination with other services suchas radiology, facilitating various clinicappointments, communicating with patients regarding test results,and providing coverage for the team - Performs (oversees/assures completion of) specialized procedures particular to the select medical oncology population mutuallyagreed upon with collaborating physician. - Followsand manages patients (in collaboration withMD) enhancing continuity of careacross the trajectory of illness. -Developsappropriate plans of careand follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory,and physical examination findingsacross the trajectory of illness -Facilitates patient movement through the systemand efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration. -Facilitatesand co-manages communications between physicians, patients, family,and staff. -Orders medicationsand writes prescriptions, inclusive of standard of careantineoplasticsand oncologic investigational new drugsaccording to organizationaland regulatory policiesand procedures. -Participates in research efforts toadvance knowledgeand to promote research-based practice. -Appreciates the complex medical environments of cancer patients including, but not limited to, those withadvanced malignancy or organ dysfunctionand the risk for complex drug interactions. -Maintainsand updates clinical knowledgeand skills based on current health care practice/research.
