Position Title: QUALITY NDE TEAM LEADER

Position Summary: Responsible for leading NDE personnel to safely inspect parts on time within the estimated hours. Serves as a technical resource for the team. Ensures that the team objectives are met, including project, cost, quality and safety related factors. Performs schedule-critical NDE operations when the production schedules, and personnel availability conflict.

Reports To: Quality Manager

Personnel: Quality NDE Inspectors

Accountabilities: Lead the team to accurately and efficiently inspect parts on time. Performance will be measured by work center efficiencies, indirect direct, adherence to the production schedule, and non-conformances. Lead the team to maintain their area, according to 6S and Lean Manufacturing standards. Play an integral part in the hiring, training, development, and certification of team members. Ensure team members are held accountable to all performance expectations. Initiate appropriate performance feedback and discipline according to company policy.

Authorities: Determine how jobs routed to work centers will be set up and processed. Assign personnel to appropriate tasks based on qualification and skill set. Arrange necessary overtime schedules for approval.

Duties:

  • Conduct planning of jobs and troubleshooting production issues;
  • Assign daily work to the team while managing Priority Dispatch Lists (PDLs) and internal operations request for Quality support in a timely manner;
  • Support team members in doing their job with materials, supplies, technical support, etc.;
  • Conduct regular communication meetings for the NDE Team and for individual personnel to support engagement and development;
  • Interface with Engineering to review job requirements and plan NDE operations;
  • Attend Production Control meetings, pre-release, and job release meetings as scheduled;
  • Assist with problem solving for operational issues related to NDE;
  • Ensure the team's work schedules support operational needs, including overtime when required, obtain overtime approval from dept. manager;
  • Evaluate skill level and performance of personnel. Maintain training / qualification / skills information for the team, facilitate training needs;
  • Investigate any anomalies, non-conformances, job overruns, accidents, incidents. Define and implement appropriate corrective actions;
  • Interface with MTM Level III in developing NDE procedures and techniques;
  • Interface with Quality Manager and MTM Level III in maintaining all NDE related system operating procedures, work instructions ensuring NDE procedures adhere to the latest industry and customer requirements;
  • Train, develop and monitor technical proficiency of NDE personnel, including auditing and testing to ensure compliance with internal, industry, and customer requirements;
  • Interface with MTM Level III to maintain written practice for control and administration of NDE personnel training, examination, and certification (reference SNT-TC-1A and NAS410);
  • Participate in customer and certification audits;
  • Provide NDE technical expertise to internal and external customers;

Job Qualification Requirements:

Educational Experience - Educational requirements may be fulfilled by one or more of the following: Minimum requirement of High School Diploma or GED; with additional Trade School / Vocational School education, college, some college education or relevant job experience not less than three years in NDE.

Experience - Must be highly competent in the trade to be supervised. Five years' minimum manufacturing experience. Previous supervisory experience is desired but not required.

Physical Demands - The employee is required to:

  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor
  • exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Certification Requirements - Level II or III certifications SNT-TC-1A and/or NAS410, desired but not required. Prior certifications would require recertification.

Visual Acuity - Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts and machinery.

Working Conditions - Normally works in a shop environment and may frequently be subject to:

  • High noise levels from machinery
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and production components
  • Breathing fumes, dust and mist
  • Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids
  • Welding flashes

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
