Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the acquisition and retention of selected high value Business segment customers, acting as the 1:1 "face" of NRG brands consulting on all customer electricity needs. The individual in this role must possess analytical skills, be highly knowledgeable in front and back office internal systems or could quickly learn and retain related systems and product training. This role requires consultative critical thinking skills, including the ability to assess customer challenges, identify root causes, and recommend effective solutions. Professionalism is paramount as Business Consultants are expected to provide superior customer care experience in daily face-to-face interaction with NRG Business customers and prospects.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Consultant will be assigned to specific Business accounts (approximately 200 - 500) to act as the liaison between the customer and NRG.
  • Consultant will be judged on his/her ability to meet or exceed targets for business sales, customer attrition and customer satisfaction.
  • The Consultant will represent a single resource to their customers for anything they might need from NRG. This will personalize our relationship with our top customers while simplifying the service model.
  • Serve as a trusted energy advisor by conducting customer site visits, educating customers on billing and energy-related concepts, providing energy management and efficiency recommendations, and identifying product or pricing solutions that enhance customer value, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Consultants will be equipped with a laptop that allows them to connect to internal systems. This will allow them to make updates/changes and provide on-site solutions to the customer upon request.
  • Consultant will provide accurate and timely updates to internal Customer Relationship Management tool to document all customer contacts including site visits, emails, and phone conversations.
  • Research customer businesses before contacting them to become familiar with the kind of business they operate and their history with NRG brands. This could include web research, internal systems, contact log, etc.
  • Provide timely customer insights and feedback to Segment Marketing based on meaningful customer interactions, helping identify product interests, unmet needs, brand perceptions, service improvement opportunities, and competitive trends.

  • Ability to influence customer decisions through consultative discussions.
  • Business acumen and understanding of commercial customer operations.
  • Ability to identify sales, renewal, and upsell opportunities.
  • Proficiency using CRM, Microsoft Office, and customer account management systems.
  • Ability to interpret usage, billing, and pricing data to support customer recommendations.
  • Networking and business development skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Adaptability and continuous-learning mindset in a changing energy market.

Minimum Requirements:

    • 3+years of customer service experience required prior supervisory experience a plus. Experience in customer relationship management (account management) with business customers and business to business sales is required. Commensurate level of relevant experience will be considered in combination with the educational requirement.
    • High School diploma or equivalency required. Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.
    • All positions at NRG require at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
  • May occasionally be exposed to elevated temperatures during customer visits and prospecting; must prioritize safety and remain prepared for weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
  • Flexibility with work schedule.
  • Work requires flexibility in scheduling, routine field-based customer engagement, periodic in-market and out-of-market travel, and occasional overtime to support customer visits, business development, special projects, expos, and business events.
