Job Description

The IT Senior Technical Manager provides strategic and technical leadership for the organization's enterprise infrastructure, systems architecture, cybersecurity, and IT operations across multiple manufacturing facilities. This role is responsible for developing and executing the enterprise technical strategy while ensuring highly available, secure, and scalable technology solutions that support manufacturing operations and business objectives.

The IT Senior Technical Manager leads infrastructure modernization, operational excellence, cybersecurity initiatives, disaster recovery planning, and enterprise technology projects while mentoring technical staff and partnering with business leaders to drive digital transformation.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Enterprise Architecture

  • Own the enterprise technical strategy, architecture standards, and long-term technology roadmap.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for enterprise infrastructure, platforms, and business systems.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, standardization, and lifecycle management of enterprise infrastructure technologies.
  • Ensure security-by-design, resiliency, scalability, and audit readiness are embedded in all enterprise architectures.
  • Lead modernization initiatives, automation efforts, cloud adoption, and systematic reduction of technical debt.
  • Align technology initiatives with manufacturing and business objectives while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

Infrastructure & Enterprise Systems

  • Design, implement, document, maintain, and support enterprise infrastructure and services, including:
    • Microsoft Exchange
    • Microsoft 365 (Office 365)
    • Active Directory
    • Azure Active Directory / Entra ID
    • SharePoint
    • Citrix
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM)
    • DNS, DHCP, and related core network services
    • AWS-Cloud Infrastructure
    • SSO Application Integrations
    • ADP - Microsoft, Employee Integration
  • Architect, implement, and support Hyper-V virtualization, enterprise storage, replication, backup, and disaster recovery platforms.
  • Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrade of enterprise hardware including servers, storage systems, network switches, routers, wireless access points, wiring closets, and enterprise printing infrastructure.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, reliability, and scalability of enterprise systems across all manufacturing locations.

Manufacturing Systems & Business Applications

  • Support manufacturing technologies including ERP, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Quality Management Systems (QMS), and shop-floor technologies.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to improve manufacturing processes through technology.
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations to securely integrate Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) environments while maintaining cybersecurity and manufacturing resiliency.
  • Partner with application owners and Operations to ensure the supporting infrastructure for ERP, MES, WMS, QMS, and shop-floor technologies is secure, highly available, and scalable.

IT Operations & Service Delivery

  • Drive operational excellence by implementing and maintaining ITIL best practices and a culture of continuous service improvement.
  • Ensure IT services consistently meet established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Provide technical leadership and escalation support for Help Desk and infrastructure teams while ensuring exceptional customer service.
  • Direct major incident response activities, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive action plans to minimize recurring issues.
  • Monitor infrastructure performance, system health, capacity, and availability while proactively addressing operational risks.

Cybersecurity, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Collaborate with IT leadership to develop and execute enterprise cybersecurity strategy, governance, compliance, and risk management initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain security best practices, including role-based access controls, change management controls, vulnerability management, and system hardening.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX, cybersecurity frameworks, internal policies, and enterprise risk management requirements.
  • Participate in and support internal and external audits while coordinating remediation efforts and maintaining audit readiness.
  • Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.
  • Implement and maintain enterprise identity services including Conditional Access, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Privileged Access Management (PAM), and identity governance.

Project & Vendor Management

  • Lead enterprise infrastructure projects using established project management methodologies from planning through implementation.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, resource plans, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage technology vendors, service providers, and strategic partners while ensuring contract compliance and service quality.
  • Assist with annual IT budget planning, forecasting, procurement, licensing, and cost optimization initiatives.

Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop systems engineers, system administrators, infrastructure specialists, and other IT staff.
  • Establish clear expectations, priorities, performance objectives, and accountability measures.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and technical guidance to elevate the overall capability of the infrastructure team.
  • Manage workload distribution, resource allocation, on-call rotations, and escalation processes to ensure effective support coverage.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish performance expectations, support career development, and promote employee engagement.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts, risks, and recommendations effectively to executive leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding activities, employee engagement, and succession planning in partnership with IT leadership and Human Resources.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer focused service delivery.
Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise IT infrastructure including Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, Citrix, and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise infrastructure modernization, digital transformation and large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure within a manufacturing and/or multi-site environment.
  • Strong technical expertise in Microsoft enterprise technologies, virtualization, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and infrastructure operations.
  • Proven project management experience leading complex infrastructure implementations from planning through deployment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Education Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Microsoft, Citrix, VMware, Hyper-V or other relevant industry certifications preferred; equivalent combinations of education, certifications, and related experience will be considered.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in an office setting with a controlled environment.
  • Occasional visits to manufacturing facilities might be necessary where there is exposure to manufacturing environmental conditions such as dust, grease, heat, cold, loud noise, fumes and odors.
  • Moving and lifting of computer equipment is required at times.
  • Installation of equipment, software upgrades and other activities are occasionally required to be done outside of normal working hours. This individual must be available to work evenings, weekends or holidays and will schedule other resources, both inside and outside, to meet business requirements as necessary.
