Kemps is seeking a skilled Maintenance Electrician to support electrical maintenance across plant utilities and production systems. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and electronic components on industrial equipment in accordance with electrical codes, schematics, and specifications. The ideal candidate will also serve as a resource for less experienced team members and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
HOURS: 1st Shift - Rotating Schedule - 1 week, Monday - Thursday (10 hour shifts), 1 week, Sunday - Thursday (8 hour shifts). Schedule is subject to change, Overtime and Holiday may be required.
PAY: $42.91/hour
Key Responsibilities

  • Program, troubleshoot, and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), and interlocking systems
  • Install and support electrical systems for new equipment and services (120V, 240V, and 480V three-phase), including wiring, conduit, panels, breakers, contactors, relays, timers, and controls
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair on plant automation systems down to the component level, including 0-10V and 4-20 mA signal systems
  • Conduct electrical maintenance and repair activities, including replacing circuit breakers, fuses, and variable speed drives
  • Service electrical equipment such as frequency drives (VFDs), contactors, overloads, fixtures, switches, receptacles, and wiring
  • Interpret technical documents, including schematics, blueprints, service manuals, and work orders, to complete assigned tasks
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems, including distribution systems, motor control centers, and motors
  • Support production operators by providing troubleshooting assistance and basic training to reduce downtime
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues impacting production efficiency
  • Stay current on new technologies, equipment, and industry best practices
  • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes and system reliability
  • Anticipate parts and material needs, follow procurement procedures, and ensure availability for scheduled work
  • Assist with general plant maintenance activities in compliance with all applicable electrical codes and standards
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), such as SAP, to document and track maintenance activities
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and company policies related to food safety, quality, and sanitation

Education & Experience


  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a trade or technical school program in a related discipline preferred
  • 2-4 years of electrical maintenance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment, including experience with automation systems
  • Certification/Licensure: Journeyman electrician license or applicable local certification required; master electrician license preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, practices, techniques, tools, and equipment
  • Working knowledge of national, state, and local building codes, OSHA regulations, and industry safety standards related to electrical work
  • Proficiency in using standard hand and power tools for electrical maintenance
  • Ability to safely and effectively use ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to read and interpret sketches, schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings
  • Skilled in inspecting equipment, identifying potential issues, and implementing corrective actions to prevent failures or downtime
  • Ability to perform electrical maintenance and repairs independently, while supporting more complex project work as needed
  • Capable of completing small to mid-sized projects from planning through installation
  • Demonstrated ability to suggest improvements to processes and procedures
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to work with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
