DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides daily care and support to residents while helping maintain a safe, comfortable, and respectful living environment. The role includes assisting with personal care, monitoring resident needs, and supporting treatment plans under the direction of licensed staff. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Resident Support: Assist residents with daily living tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility
  • Care Monitoring: Observe resident conditions and report changes to nursing staff during rounds and shift updates
  • Meal Assistance: Deliver meal trays, help residents eat, and provide between-meal nourishment as needed
  • Safety Measures: Maintain a clean, organized environment and remove hazards to support resident safety
  • Room Care: Make beds, change linens, organize belongings, and assist with room cleanliness
  • Transport Assistance: Move residents safely by wheelchair or stretcher and escort them to appointments or activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 80 hours biweekly
  • Work hours are 2nd shift (2:45 PM to 11:15 PM) and 3rd shift (10:45 PM to 7:15 AM), with a 30-minute lunch. You will work every other weekend.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • DMVA is pleased to announce the launch of a Nursing Referral Program, promoting the hiring and retention of nursing staff at Pennsylvania's veterans homes. Under this program, both referring employees and referred candidates may be eligible for payments of up to $4,000.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
