THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on providing non-professional nursing care for veterans and their spouses in a long-term care home while supporting licensed staff. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Resident Support: Assist residents with daily care needs and observe changes in their condition
  • Daily Living Tasks: Provide help with bathing, grooming, meals, mobility, and restorative programs
  • Safety Measures: Apply safety devices, gather basic health data, and ensure a safe environment
  • Resident Transport: Move residents safely by wheelchair or stretcher and escort them to appointments
  • Recordkeeping: Document care and services according to required standards
  • Room Care: Organize resident areas and assist with belongings during admissions or transfers

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours will be determined from the following shifts, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating days and be required to work every other weekend.
    • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
    • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
    • 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • DMVA is pleased to announce the launch of a Nursing Referral Program, promoting the hiring and retention of nursing staff at Pennsylvania's veterans homes. Under this program, both referring employees and referred candidates may be eligible for payments of up to $4,000.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Special Requirement:

  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Previous long-term care experience

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
