About This Position

TKC Holdings, Inc. is hiring an Assistant Counsel to join its in-house legal team. Reporting to the Director, Senior Counsel, this role is a strong fit for an attorney with 3 or more years of litigation experience who is ready to build a broad practice in a fast-moving corporate environment. This is a hybrid role (flexibility to work from home part of the week) in St. Louis, Missouri, with no billable hour requirements. You will work across TKC's family of companies: Keefe Group, LLC, Trinity Services Group, Inc., and Courtesy Products, LLC, which serve the correctional supply and hotel supply markets. You will defend Section 1983 inmate litigation, engage in broad civil defense work, and gain exposure to employment, commercial contracting, and regulatory compliance.

The TKC Legal Affairs Department partners closely with TKC's lines of business and is made up of 7 attorneys, a paralegal, and a legal assistant.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Manage litigation matters including defending Section 1983 inmate suits, commercial disputes, general liability actions and employment claims.
  • Handle cases from pleadings through discovery, depositions, and motion practice, coordinating with outside counsel as needed.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to provide guidance on litigation, risk, and compliance.
  • Handle pre-litigation matters including subpoenas, consumer complaints, and government inquiries.
  • Use legal technology and AI tools to improve efficiency and manage legal operations.
  • This role has no direct reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need

  • A juris doctorate from an accredited, recognized law school is required.
  • 3+ years of litigation experience in a law firm or government setting.
  • Background in insurance defense, general civil defense, or governmental defense strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience as an associate or senior associate at a law firm or as a government attorney (i.e. assistant attorney general, city or county counselor's office).
  • Experience with discovery, depositions, and motion practice.
  • Familiarity with constitutional law and civil defense.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and oral and written legal and business communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and process, including excellent litigation skills.
  • Effective team player.
  • High level of professional integrity and uncompromising ethical standards.
  • Must be a member of a state bar in good standing.
  • Interest in transitioning into an in-house role with broader legal exposure.
