THE POSITION

Become a Corrections Mail Inspector with the State correctional Institution (SCI) Camp Hill and take pride in work that matters. This position allows you to support secure communication and help keep facilities safe. This position has the primary responsibility for all mail processing, both inmate and business and is responsible for assigning, directing, planning and reviewing the work performed by the Corrections Mail Inspectors. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays an important role in protecting the safety and accuracy of inmate mail operations. The work supports secure communication and careful handling of sensitive information. As a Corrections Mail Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
- Mail Inspection: Open and examine inmate mail to check for contraband and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
- Restricted Items Review: Identify correspondence and materials that fall under restricted categories and act according to guidelines
- Supervisor Consultation: Seek guidance on how to handle contraband, restricted mail, and possible violations of regulations
- Legal Mail Processing: Use tracking systems and process privileged mail in accordance with agency requirements
- Financial Handling: Remove and record money orders and other approved funds to prepare deposits for inmate accounts
- Equipment Operation: Operate scanning devices, mail equipment, and computer systems to support daily mail operations

- Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of clerical experience, including one year in the field of corrections; or
- Any combination of experience and/or training which provides the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
