THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is seeking a motivated Driver License Examiner who enjoys serving the community. In this role, you will support safe and reliable transportation by evaluating driver skills and assisting customers with licensing needs. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports safe roadway travel by evaluating driver skills and assisting customers with licensing services. As a Driver License Examiner, you will perform the following duties:

  • Driver Testing: Conduct road, skills, and knowledge tests for commercial and non-commercial applicants
  • Document Verification: Review identification and supporting records to confirm authenticity and prevent fraud
  • Vehicle Inspection: Check vehicles for proper mechanical condition and required safety features before testing
  • Identity Confirmation: Use systems and databases to authenticate applicant identities and detect irregularities
  • Customer Assistance: Provide information on licensing options, test procedures, and application requirements
  • Record Processing: Enter test results and issue licensing products for eligible applicants

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel as needed
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
