Job Description

Job Summary:



The Communication Security (COMSEC) Custodian /Alternate Facility Security Officer (AFSO) supports the implementation and oversight of all security measures required under 32 CFR 117 (NISPOM), NSA/CSS Policy Manual 3 16, and other applicable Federal regulations governing the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) and National Security Agency (NSA) requirements.


This role provides comprehensive security support across multiple disciplines, including physical security, access control, daily security inquiries, incident investigations, personnel security, operational security, and asset protection. The AFSO/COMSEC Custodian will facilitate all aspects of the COMSEC Material Control System, including inventory management, safeguarding, accounting for classified and unclassified COMSEC controlled cryptographic items (CCIs), and maintaining all required COMSEC documentation and records.


Key responsibilities include aligning security program goals with organizational objectives, assessing and mitigating risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, protecting personnel, information, facilities, and business operations.



Job Responsibilities:



  • Assist in the administration and coordination of DoD and industrial security programs to support compliance with 32 CFR 117 and all applicable government and company security policies and procedures.
  • Support due diligence activities and contribute to risk assessments aimed at identifying enhancements to physical security controls for nonNISP security functions at assigned facilities.
  • Maintain records and assist in providing security classification guidance, including managing DD254s, Security Classification Guides, and other documents associated with program security requirements.
  • Support the operation and upkeep of the security education, training, and awareness program, including onboarding/indoctrinations, annual refreshers, debriefings, courier and travel briefings, eventspecific briefings, and COMSEC-related training.
  • Coordinate with and provide basic security guidance to Program Managers, Contracts/Sales, Engineering/Production, Management, and Human Resources, elevating issues as needed.
  • Assist in conducting preliminary reviews of security infractions/violations and COMSEC-related incidents, drafting initial reports, and helping develop corrective actions.
  • Support the development and execution of Operational Security (OPSEC) procedures, security education, and physical safeguards to ensure compliance with government requirements and internal corporate security policies.
  • Assist in enforcing proper receipt, transfer, accountability, safeguarding, and destruction of COMSEC materials in alignment with NSA/CSS Policy Manual No. 316 and related COMSEC directives.
  • Perform and document secure equipment and classified keying material inventories, inspections, basic troubleshooting, and other COMSEC-related support tasks under the supervision of the COMSEC Manager.
  • Help manage documentation associated with key COMSEC deliverables, including key management plans, cryptographic inventories, audit logs, and security incident documentation.


Required Qualifications:



  • Typically requires 3(+) years of hands-on experience as a Facility Security Officer (FSO), Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO), or Communications Security (COMSEC) Manager or Assistant COMSEC Manager, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with security management software, such as SIMS and government databases such as DISS (Defense Information Security System).
  • Training or experience with the National Security Agency required tool, DIAS, for maintaining COMSEC material control.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication/presentation skills with proven ability to influence, shape and execute an enterprise-wide corporate security program.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, adjust quickly, and adapt to changing priorities, working well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance (or higher) required day one.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Industry relevant Certifications preferred.


This position requires you to have an active government security clearance. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

Pay Grade Range
Fulltime Equivalent Job Grade Salary Range for this position
"* $75,000.00 - $150,000.00 annual salary for in-office or hybrid employees in FL, GA, IN, AZ, AL, MD or TX, and all remote employees
* $84,000.00 - $168,000.00 annual salary for in-office or hybrid employees in VA, CA, NH or MA
* $88,500.00 - $177,000.00 annual salary for in-office or hybrid employees in NJ"
