Role Description

As directed by the Forest County Potawatomi Community's Executive Council, the Potawatomi Ventures Board Member will support the work of Potawatomi Ventures and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Potawatomi Ventures' Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Board Member and CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board Member is both critical and expected.

The term will fill an existing vacant seat ending October, 1 2027. Board Members will be considered eligible for re-appointment once the existing term is complete. Board Meetings are held monthly, or as needed. Committee Meetings will be held in coordination with full Board Meetings. Board Members are compensated for their efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO through development and implementation of Potawatomi Ventures' strategic plan.
  • Define CEO's responsibilities and provide guidance and support to improve the overall performance of the CEO.
  • Review outcomes and metrics created by Potawatomi Ventures for evaluation of its impact, performance, and effectiveness.
  • Approve Potawatomi Ventures' annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions.
  • Be informed and meet all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Partner with the CEO and other Board Members to ensure that Board Resolutions are carried out.
  • Represent Potawatomi Ventures to stakeholders and act as an ambassador for the organization.
  • Formulate the rules of governance, establishing the methods for oversight and determining an outcome.
  • Maintain and abide by the high professional and personal values, standards and morals of Potawatomi Ventures and the Forest County Potawatomi Community at all times in professional and personal conduct.


Education


  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or closely related field
  • Master's degree or MBA preferred
  • Native American preference


Skills and Experience


  • Five years+ experience in business management, or government leadership preferred
  • Awareness about evolving trends specifically in finance and business is imperative
