Job Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and full engineering ownership for complex data center infrastructure projects and product lines. This role serves as the primary engineering point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring projects are executed in accordance with customer requirements, industry standards, safety regulations, and business objectives. The Project Engineer leads multidisciplinary engineering activities, manages technical project execution, supports product development initiatives, and collaborates closely with Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities



  • Serve as the primary engineering contact for customers and internal stakeholders throughout project execution.
  • Define project requirements and develop technical solutions that meet customer and business objectives.
  • Lead engineering activities for complex data center infrastructure projects and product portfolios.
  • Oversee and approve engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, customer requirements, and safety regulations.
  • Review and monitor engineering deliverables to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and project planning sessions.
  • Develop project engineering scopes of work, execution plans, schedules, and resource forecasts.
  • Prepare technical requisitions and engineering documentation for mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Develop and review engineering deliverables including equipment lists, valve lists, piping line lists, piping calculations, stress analysis, and equipment data sheets.
  • Manage engineering change processes and prepare Management of Change (MOC) documentation as required.
  • Support cost optimization efforts by identifying innovative engineering solutions while maintaining quality and schedule requirements.
  • Coordinate engineering activities across multiple projects and customers simultaneously.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and project team members.
  • Support onboarding and integration of new engineering personnel as project demands increase.
  • Coordinate outsourced engineering services when required.
  • Perform or review piping stress and flexibility analyses in accordance with applicable design criteria.
  • Provide piping load information and engineering support to structural engineering teams.
  • Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, commissioning activities, and site visits.
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Stay informed of industry developments and recommend new technologies, methodologies, and process improvements.
  • Support permitting activities and interactions with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction.


Job Requirements



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Degrees in Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related disciplines may be considered with relevant data center infrastructure experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of mechanical engineering and design experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting data center infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of piping systems, fire suppression systems, and mechanical equipment design.
  • Experience with mechanical system design, layout, routing, and component selection.
  • Knowledge of chillers, cooling towers, evaporative cooling systems, pumps, vessels, valves, heat exchangers, mechanical controls, and related equipment.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and their impact on mechanical infrastructure design.
  • Strong understanding of engineering codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to produce engineering sketches, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and project planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions.
  • Excellent customer-facing communication and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality.


Education



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Other engineering disciplines may be considered with significant data center infrastructure experience.


Work Experience



  • Minimum of 7 years of mechanical engineering experience required.
  • Experience designing and supporting data center infrastructure required.
  • Experience with fast-track design-build projects preferred.
  • Experience with piping systems, fire protection systems, and mechanical infrastructure required.
  • Experience with permitting and regulatory approval processes preferred.
  • Experience leading engineering teams, projects, or technical initiatives preferred.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and field operations preferred.


Technical Skills



  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Advanced proficiency with PDF editing software.
  • Experience with CAESAR II required.
  • Working knowledge of SAP preferred.
  • Experience with SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit preferred.
  • Experience with Autodesk BIM 360 preferred.
  • Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD preferred.
  • Experience with Navisworks preferred.
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies preferred.
