The position for Mechanical Engineering candidates offers exciting opportunities in the Power Generation and Renewables field. HDR also offers cross training in other business groups, which provides additional broad experiences in the electrical engineering field. Mechanical Engineering duties include providing support for engineering and construction projects at power generation, cogeneration, and district heating and cooling facilities for utility, industrial and institutional clients. Project types include combined and simple cycle power generation, reciprocating engine power generation, steam and chilled water distribution, water treatment, air quality control and plant betterment, renewables which includes solar, wind and battery storage. Within those facilities and projects, our work typically includes design and consulting for both steam cycle and balance-of-plant systems including steam, condensate, cooling water, water treatment, natural gas, compressed air, fire protection, HVAC, air quality control, material handling, and other similar systems.
In the role of Mechanical EIT/Coordinator, we'll count on you to:
- Performing engineering calculations and code reviews
- Sizing and selecting materials and equipment
- Participating in site visits and surveys
- Developing and reviewing piping & instrument drawings
- Reviewing manufacturers drawings and submittals
- Developing procurement and construction specifications
- Performing bid evaluations
- Evaluating existing systems and equipment
- Technical /report writing
- Participating in team meetings
- Communicating with equipment vendors
- Processing of engineering submittals, and other similar tasks as assigned
- Some travel may be required
- Perform all other duties as assigned
This position will also include working with 3D Building Information Modeling software and performing piping stress analysis using Bentley AutoPipe software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or a Bachelor of Science degree in a similar relevant field such as Chemical Engineering
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant to Power Generation
- EIT certification strongly preferred. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
- Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
- Strong interest in power generation, design, and consulting related work
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Positive attitude, ability coordinate their work with others and work as part of a team environment
- Ability to travel
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently
- Attention to accuracy, detail orientated, self-directed learning, ability to meet deadlines
- Strong organizational skills with capability to multi-task.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and equipment selection software)
