About the Job

Conduct research assigned by Dr. Christopher Lenhart.
Research assistant needed to assess wetland restoration sites in Minnesota for greenhouse gas flux and related ecological processes. The RA will travel to several research sites mostly in southeastern to central Minnesota to collect the GHG flux data as well as related soil, water and vegetation properties. They will assess the data to characterize the response of the wetlands to restoration with a focus on changes to the GHG balance.

Timeframe & Compensation:

  • This work is scheduled for Summer Term, 5/25/2026- 8/30/2026.
  • This is a 50% (20 hrs/week)>. Work Location & Schedule
  • St. Paul campus. Monday - Friday between 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

This position is covered by GLU-UE (Graduate Labor Union-United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, Local 1105)

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Student must be registered in a graduate or post-baccalaureate professional degree.
  • Must be admitted to the BBSEM graduate professional degree program at the University of Minnesota.
  • Restricted to students conducting research activities in a summer term appointment and electing to register for coursework
About the Department

The Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering (BBE) discovers and teaches solutions for the sustainable use of renewable resources and enhancement of the environment. BBE integrates engineering, science, technology, and management into all degree programs taught by internationally recognized faculty. Our engineering program is accredited under the Biological Engineering criteria of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $29.52 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
