Molex is now hiring for an Engineering Lab Mechanical Technician for the Engineering Lab in Lisle, Illinois with a passion and excitement for contributing to product development testing and sample elaboration support. We are looking for a knowledgeable, enthusiastic team member who is ready for a hands-on technical role. We seek entrepreneurial individuals that have a desire for creating value through their work. The successful candidate will work well in a collaborative environment to provide quality, timely results on various interconnect solutions to our globally diverse Engineering team.

This Molex facility works with custom fiber optic assemblies, bundles, and specialty fibers including gold and aluminum metalized fibers for industrial and medical applications.

What You Will Do

  • Be familiar with the use of basic hand and power tools to assembly and adapt various mechanisms, fixtures and products.
  • Be familiar with light manufacturing and shop equipment.
  • Be familiar with basic electronics components and methods such as hook up wire, wire stripping, crimping soldering, multimeter.
  • Understand 3D modeling and file export and sharing for the purpose of presentation and manufacturing methods.
  • Execute tasks involving various mechanical tests in accordance with industry, customer, and/or internal specifications.
  • Complete product evaluation and performance analysis using test results and statistical analysis.
  • Troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis.
  • Read and challenge task assignments to evaluate performance and reliability of terminals, connectors, and module level products/solutions under exposure to mechanical conditions.
  • Operate automated mechanical force test equipment.
  • Design mechanical test fixtures and work with the Model Shop and or vendors for fixture manufacturing.
  • Perform various mechanical tests including, but not limited to: Connector Mate/Unmate, Terminal Insertion/Extraction, Normal Force, Durability, cable pull, Linear Cycling, and Cable Flex.
  • Work closely with various project leaders to ensure efficient and timely project deliverables to customers.
  • Technical writing and best practice documentation creation
  • Maintenance of the lab and the equipment along with scheduling calibration as required.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Science, or equivalent work experience in a laboratory environment for related field
  • One (1) year or more experience in a laboratory environment for related field
  • Experience with force test equipment, load frames, and load cells

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Engineering Science
  • Experience with Instron force test equipment and Bluehill Universal software
  • Experience with Mechanical Cycle Testing (Linear and/or Cable Flex)
  • Experience testing electrical interconnect systems, including data analysis, and troubleshooting to aid in root cause failure analysis
  • Experience using common metrology tools and ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and geometric tolerances (GD&T)

For this role, we anticipate paying $30-35 per hour. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
