The Investigational Drug Services (IDS) Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (CPS) independently supports pharmaceutical care services and the growth of the clinical research program through collaboration with Pharmacy and Research leadership, sponsors, regulatory agencies, investigators, and multidisciplinary care teams. This role provides expert guidance to ensure regulatory compliance, operational quality, and standardized use of investigational medications across the organization.

As a pharmacy subject matter expert, the CPS develops and maintains systems that support strategic research initiatives, addresses complex therapeutic and operational issues, and serves as a liaison between Pharmacy and Research departments. The position also represents research pharmacy across disease teams and committees while contributing to staff education, professional development, and collaborative problem-solving.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Undertake primary responsibility for investigational drug use and management for multiple disease team research portfolios.

  • Application of established anti-neoplastic and immunomodulating medication use processes for investigational drugs.

  • Collaboration with City of Hope Enterprise stakeholder teams as a pharmacy subject matter expert to supports strategic program goals for clinical research in accordance with accreditation/regulatory standards, institutional policy and best practices.

  • Ensure compliance with the Joint Commission, NCI, FDA, CA Board of Pharmacy requirements and serve as the pharmacy representative through inspections.

  • Ensure adherence to City of Hope research policies and procedures and serve as the pharmacy lead for clinical trials.

  • Develops Epic drug build specifications and Pharmacy Summaries for investigational agents within the assigned disease team

  • Liaise and work alongside cross-functional teams, including the Clinical Trials Office.

  • Completes all assigned study related or program development or administrative projects and activities.

  • Develops and presents educational activities to pharmacists, nursing staff, and the providers at least twice a year

  • Maintains compliance with all rules and regulations governing the practice of Pharmacy and City of Hope policies and procedures.

  • Assists with onboarding, selecting, retaining and developing quality staff/ with appropriate feedback and evaluation.

  • The individual can supervise technician staff, oversee investigational drug use processes, and assist the director and managers in the operational aspects of the department or unit.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Leadership Team.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Graduate of ACPE-accredited Pharmacy School

  • Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY 1) and Hematology/Oncology Specialty Residency (PGY2), or Five years of experience as a clinical pharmacist in a research or hematology/oncology or other specialty settings with exposure to investigational studies, may substitute for the required residencies, or A PGY1 residency plus three years of experience as a clinical pharmacist in a research or hematology/oncology or other specialty setting with exposure to investigational studies may substitute for the required PGY2 residency.

  • Current CA Pharmacist License

  • American Heart Association BLS certification
