Overview
The Systems Administrator is responsible for day-to-day management, maintenance, and support of the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, virtualization, and other critical systems. This role involves configuring, troubleshooting, and ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of systems and services. The Systems Administrator will collaborate with other staff and departments to deliver optimal support and contribute to ongoing IT projects. Work Location: Washington, DC Work Arrangement: Onsite Clearance: Must have an active Secret clearance
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Administer, configure, and support Windows Server infrastructure and core services (Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, Group Policy, file/print) to meet availability, performance, and service-level objectives.
- Monitor system health, logs, and capacity; respond to incidents, perform root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence and minimize downtime.
- Operate and improve backup/restore and disaster recovery capabilities, including backup job monitoring, restore execution, routine recovery testing, and maintaining current runbooks/documentation.
- Coordinate planned maintenance and system changes with stakeholders; develop implementation plans, validate results, and communicate status/impacts to ensure successful, low-risk deployments.
- Drive continuous improvement through standardization and automation (PowerShell), platform lifecycle activities (patching/upgrades), and recommendations that improve reliability, security, and operational efficiency across the environment.
- Administer SharePoint Knowledgebase site, including creating folders and managing permission groups.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in IT or related field of study, or equivalent experience, plus 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Active Secret Clearance or equivalent.
- Hands-on administration of enterprise server environments (Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, Group Policy, file/print services) including patching, hardening, and performance tuning.
- Strong experience supporting Windows Server and Windows 10/11, including troubleshooting, break/fix, and endpoint configuration.
- Experience administering enterprise backup/restore operations.
- Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi and vCenter), including VM provisioning, snapshots, resource management, and support of clusters and high-availability configurations.
- Familiar with basic SQL programming and SharePoint 2019 Administration.
- Proficiency in automation/scripting (PowerShell preferred; Python a plus) to streamline administration tasks (account provisioning, reporting, patching, and system health checks).
- Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation, brief stakeholders, and lead incident response/troubleshooting efforts across teams.
