Role Overview
Do you enjoy designing and conducting applied research in healthcare with real-world data? Do you enjoy interacting with clients and technical teams to develop and deliver a study? Do you love seeing impact quickly? If yes, then this is the job for you! Medscape Medical Affairs is looking for a Senior Researcher to design, conduct, and present real-world studies aimed at evaluating scientific content interventions. We are looking for a high-impact Senior Researcher to act as the scientific and strategic execution engine of our team. This isn't just a "backend" data role-you will act as an internal and external research consultant, the voice our clients trust, and the bridge between complex data and business-winning strategy. You'll thrive here if you enjoy a fast-paced environment where your work directly influences high impact business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Protocol & Strategy: Partner with internal Analytics and Data Science teams, clinical strategists, and Medical Science Directors (MSDs) to develop robust study protocols. You won't just follow a plan; you'll help create it.
  • Business Development Support: Lead the methods section for business proposals, ensuring our technical approach is both scientifically unassailable and commercially compelling.
  • Advanced Analytics: Design and execute (or supervise) end-to-end observational studies using healthcare claims data and first-party engagement and behavioral data. You must be an expert in retrospective pre-post matched comparison designs.
  • The "So What" Factor: Translate complex statistical outputs into succinct, high-level reports for internal stakeholders and clients with collaborative client-presentation responsibilities. You are responsible for delivering the clear, actionable message hidden in the data.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Manage communication with internal leadership, sales, and project teams, ensuring projects remain on track in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
Qualifications
  • Education: Master's or PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience: 3-5+ years of applied research experience using large-scale healthcare claims databases.
  • Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of study design, specifically matching methodologies and bias mitigation in observational data, study protocol development, and statistical modeling expertise with hands-on experience using SAS, R, or Python.
  • Communication and Story-Telling: The ability to explain "the math" to non-technical stakeholders, write persuasive technical sections for proposals, and take complex applied research results and tell a story that provides value and insights to the client.
Salary range: $125,000 - $150,000
Bonus Eligible:
This position is also eligible for a discretionary company bonus, based upon business results.
Benefits:
Employees in this position are eligible to participate in the company sponsored benefit programs, including the following within the first 12 months of employment:
  • Health Insurance (medical, dental, and vision coverage)
  • Paid Time Off (including vacation, sick leave, and flexible holiday days)
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching
  • Life and Disability Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Commuter and/or Transit Benefits (if applicable)
Eligibility for specific benefits may vary based on job classification, schedule (e.g., full-time vs. part-time), work location and length of employment.
