  • Portneuf Medical Center (PMC) is a nationally recognized healthcare leader with 205 beds, serving as the region's Level II Trauma Center and tertiary referral hospital, and is home to the Portneuf Heart and Vascular Institute, Portneuf Cancer Center, Portneuf Medical Group and Portneuf Air Rescue. PMC has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, an adult intensive care unit, nationally recognized orthopedic services, a full suite of cardiac care, Center of Excellence recognized surgeons, imaging, primary and specialty care.

Responsibilities

The Medical Laboratory Scientist Supervisor functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for leading a laboratory department, with direct oversight of staff who perform clinical laboratory testing specific to that laboratory department. The MLS Supervisor responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
  • Ensures department documentation is complaint with hospital and regulatory guidelines and ensures the department is in working order as assigned.
  • Oversees quality control, preventative maintenance, equipment repairs (minor and major), inventory control, and statistical compilation.
  • Leads and participates in the performance improvement and quality assurance process, education and proficiency testing.
  • Contributes to the success of the department's development and performance improvement by supporting initiatives and ensuring participation.
  • Oversees staff, orientation, training, competencies, evaluation and retention.
  • Maintains staffing schedule and complies with established productivity and appropriate staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage of the department.
  • As assigned by their supervisor, provides determination and implementation of all testing, test menus, validation and supply inventory.
  • Participates in the fiscal responsibilities of the department by ensuring appropriate use of resources and maintaining billing compliance.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership by creating a positive work environment, providing timely feedback and encouraging service excellence.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or Physical Science OR Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technician with >2 years of experience in a high complexity clinical laboratory.
  • ASCP or equivalent
  • Current knowledge of pathology laboratory techniques and principles.
  • Clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Technician within a clinical laboratory.
  • Overall knowledge of lab operations, including quality control, safety, and problem-solving.
  • Shows evidence of leadership skills in managing people.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years' experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role, billing compliance, performance improvement, and regulatory standards.
