Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

Primary role as account representative in the home pharmacy billing department. Secondary role as back-up pharmacy technician.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Review government peds and adult supply claims particularly- Straight Medi-Cal, Managed Care. Handles reconciliation. Process proper adjustments. If applicable, sends rebills.

* Performs second audit of supply claims prior to sending to payers this includes attaching manufacturer's invoice with the claim.

* Custodian of manufacturer's invoices. Responsibility includes: Prepares and adds information on the manufacturers invoices to comply with the payer's requirement. Saves prepared invoices in the billing team's shared folder. Pulls and saves copy of any missing manufacturer's invoices either from our accounts payable system (PeopleSoft) or from manufacturer's website, i.e. Owens & Minor.

* Document control analyst. Responsibility includes: organizing, copying and filing of initial supply claims for all payers. Coordinates the sending of claims and other billing and payment documents that need to be archived.

* Performs maintenance of Home Pharmacy refrigerators and incubators duties include- monthly cleaning, change batteries annually or as needed

* Back-up support for Home Pharmacy IV room, duties include: Expired medication checks, cleaning assigned pharmacy area, Filling prescriptions under pharmacist supervision, Compounding sterile products and hazardous drugs.

* Backup support for DME personnel, duties include: Equipment maintenance: Tracking, cleaning, routine testing, sending pumps for biomed testing and repair, cleans and organizes DME clean room and dirty room. Contact patients and coordinate with delivery staff for pump retrieval

* Assist senior acct representatives with confirming delivery tickets.

* Assist cash poster with posting Medi-Cal payments.

* Back-up support for the intake team: phone triage, completing refill orders with active authorization.

* Assist with patient satisfaction survey database.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience: Six (6) months pharmacy technician experience including One (1) year medical/pharmacy billing experience

License/Certification:

  • Pharmacy Technician by California Board of Pharmacy
  • or
  • Intern Pharmacist by California Board of Pharmacy

KNOWLEDGE

* Knowledge of influence of patient's age, sex, concomitant disease states, concurrent drug therapy, foods and diagnostic procedures on drug activity and disposition.

* Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.

* Knowledge of Medical terminology and abbreviations; pharmacology and pharmacological nomenclature; medical therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and disease states

* Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies

* Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, chemistry and mathematics as they relate to pharmacy practice

* Knowledge of USP 797 Guidelines

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $38.91 to $43.63
