Job Summary


The Machinist A is responsible for setting up and operating machining equipment to manufacture aerospace components to precise specifications and tight tolerances. This role performs complex machining operations with minimal supervision, interprets engineering drawings and GD&T requirements, and ensures all parts meet strict quality and production standards. The position requires advanced machining knowledge, strong inspection skills, and experience working in a manufacturing environment focused on precision and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities



  • Set up and operate machining equipment independently to manufacture complex aerospace components
  • Interpret blueprints, work orders, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, air gauges, and comparators
  • Machine, hone, lap, and finish parts to close tolerances and quality specifications
  • Adjust machine feeds, speeds, tooling, and offsets as required for various materials
  • Examine workpieces for defects and verify quality throughout the machining process
  • Replace worn tools and maintain equipment performance during production runs
  • Maintain production efficiency while meeting quality and safety standards
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety procedures
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization efforts
  • Collaborate with team members to support production goals and operational excellence


Job Requirements



  • High school diploma required
  • Minimum of 7 years of machining, honing, or lapping experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation
  • Experience working with multiple machine tools and precision machining processes
  • Ability to maintain close tolerance dimensions on critical aerospace components
  • Proficiency using dimensional measuring instruments and inspection tools
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and meet ITAR requirements
  • Must reside within commuting distance of the work location


Education



  • High school diploma required


Work Experience



  • 7+ years of machining experience required
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, SPC, or Six Sigma methodologies preferred
