Job Summary

The Operations Team Supervisor (OTS) manages unit operations and maintains plant equipment and systems to ensure reliable, efficient power generation. Key responsibilities include overseeing plant operations, diagnosing and resolving technical issues, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental and Regulatory protocols.

The OTS commits to and executes work plans, provides workforce oversight, and fosters positive interdepartmental relationships. The role requires collaboration with engineers, technicians, and specialists to optimize performance and address technical challenges. Critical priorities include safety, environmental compliance, productivity, and quality. As the senior leader on site, the OTS must be available to support operations during nights and weekends as needed.

Additional duties encompass identifying and removing workplace barriers, communicating organizational direction, and managing employee development and performance for assigned personnel, in addition to the following:

Responsibilities
  • Monitors station environmental, health and safety objectives are met and ensures compliance with all operational, environmental and other compliance requirements
  • Provides leadership and accountability in order to achieve desired safety results (Lock Out Tag Out compliance, safety meeting attendance, safety policies/procedures, work practices, etc.)
  • Oversee the preparation and execution of the Lock Out Tag Out procedures for equipment under the jurisdiction of the production team.
  • Communicates performance metrics and expectations to direct reports
  • Provides leadership and direction in the development and implementation of best practice routines, work process improvement, maintenance and operation procedures.
  • Supervise plant operations and maintenance following company guidelines, meeting power generation requirements, and completing planned activities as defined by the Operating Model
  • Interacts with Vendors and Contractors, providing oversight and project management as needed.
  • Supports leadership in achieving financial targets, ensuring to effectively manage and track labor and contractor costs.
  • Provide input to establish unit generation plan (Short, Medium and Long Term)
  • Provide leadership and support for incident reporting process, including fact-finding investigations, decision-making problem-solving analysis, etc.
  • Monitor generating unit and/or equipment operating parameters and conditions, direct team in corrective actions needed
  • Counsels, trains, evaluates, develops, guides and assists assigned personnel relative to job performance and duties
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Associates degree and 3 years related experience.
  • In lieu of degree, HS diploma and 7 years related experience
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong computer skills including ability to use various applications
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Thorough knowledge of the overall operating fundamentals and principles of generating station systems, equipment and processes

Working Conditions

  • Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at a company facility.
  • Performs work in a power plant and an office environment; required to observe work in all areas of generating facilities which are power plant, industrial environments operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, which includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity.
  • May be required to climb ladders and stairs at various heights; enter vessels or equipment with limited access; walk, stoop, bend or squat.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, inspect, calculate, count, retain and make sound decisions.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, use and reach with hands, arms and fingers.
  • There is potential exposure to high stress situations and requirement to be available for emergency response as required by the needs of service.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills
  • Knowledge of Duke Energy financial processes; ability to manage a budget and the ability to analyze data
  • Financial knowledge and skills including ability to analyze data
  • 3 years of previous supervisor experience
  • 5-7 years prior experience in plant operations or maintenance.
  • Prior experience leading in a unionized workforce
Specific Requirements
  • Must have the ability to be respirator qualified.
  • Valid Driver's License.
