Job Description

Position: Product Quality Technician - Dimensional & Disposition Support
Department: Quality Engineering

PURPOSE

The Product Quality Technician provides hands-on technical support for dimensional inspection, product review, and disposition activities within an investment casting manufacturing environment. This role is focused on evaluating product conformance, supporting engineering-driven investigations, and facilitating the flow of parts and data through MRB, FAI, and process approval activities.

The position works closely with Product Engineers, Quality Engineering, and Manufacturing to resolve nonconformances, support root cause analysis, and ensure timely and accurate product disposition. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product integrity while supporting production flow and continuous improvement initiatives.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Product Review & Dimensional Inspection

  • Perform dimensional inspections using standard and advanced measurement tools (micrometers, height gauges, calipers, etc.).
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements to evaluate product conformance.
  • Support first article inspection (FAI) activities, including data collection and verification.
  • Conduct detailed product reviews to identify discrepancies, defects, or nonconformances.

Disposition & MRB Support

  • Evaluate nonconforming product and assist in determining appropriate disposition (use-as-is, rework, scrap, etc.).
  • Support Material Review Board (MRB) activities by gathering dimensional data, photos, and supporting evidence.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineers to drive timely and technically sound disposition decisions.
  • Track and document disposition outcomes to ensure traceability and compliance.

Engineering & Problem-Solving Support

  • Assist engineers in troubleshooting product and process-related issues on the shop floor.
  • Help identify root causes of dimensional and process variation.
  • Support engineering investigations by locating parts, gathering data, and verifying conditions.
  • Act as a liaison between Quality, Engineering, and Operations to ensure alignment on technical issues.

Part Identification & Flow

  • Locate, identify, and track parts throughout manufacturing and inspection processes.
  • Ensure proper part status, tagging, and traceability during review and disposition.
  • Support movement of parts through inspection, MRB, and engineering evaluation queues.

Process & Quality System Support

  • Support FAI, MRB, and process approval workflows within the Quality system.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records for inspections, dispositions, and approvals.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to inspection efficiency and defect reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and customer/regulatory requirements (e.g., AS9100).

Inspection Review Coverage

  • Participate in scheduled inspection review activities, including half-day Saturday support as required.
  • Assist in backlog reduction and priority product review during extended or weekend operations.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor to support real-time quality and engineering needs.
  • Communicate clearly with cross-functional teams regarding product status and issues.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required to support business needs.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Proficiency with inspection tools and measurement techniques.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, preferably investment casting.
  • Ability to evaluate product condition and make sound technical judgments with guidance.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to engage in hands-on investigation.
  • Effective communication skills across engineering, quality, and operations teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Comfortable working both on the shop floor and in a technical/office setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic quality systems/tools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regular standing, walking, and movement throughout the manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to lift up to ~35 lbs occasionally.
  • Frequent use of measuring tools and inspection equipment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to: Quality Product Manager / Quality Engineering Manager
  • Works closely with: Product Engineering, Manufacturing, MRB team

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in a technical or engineering-related field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing quality, inspection, or engineering support
  • Experience with:
  • Familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems preferred
