Traffic Operations' Automated Enforcement Unit (AEU) manages four automated enforcement programs: red light, bus lane, speed, and Weigh-in-Motion (WIM). Automated enforcement is a core component of the Mayor's Vision Zero initiative, and recent legislative changes require rapid program expansion and modernization.
Traffic Operations is seeking an Assistant Electrical Engineer (AEE) to support program growth by preparing and reviewing drawings for AEU installations. As needed, the Candidate would also assist with the review of the Division's traffic signal and streetlighting plans for capital street reconstruction projects.
Under general direction, and with wide latitude for independent judgment, the AEE will perform responsible work related to the research, investigations, studies or examinations related to the engineering functions, roles, and activities supporting the expansion of the agency's Automated Enforcement program.

Key Responsibilities Include:
-Engage in research, investigations, studies or examinations related to the engineering functions, roles, and activities supporting the expansion and modernization of DOT's Automated Enforcement program.
-Prepare designs and plans using AutoCAD, evaluate contract documents and specifications, working drawings and other technical specifications and estimates of quantities.
-Conduct field visits and surveys for potential AEU equipment deployment.
-Coordinate with design consultants and review submitted plans for the development/modification of new and/or existing signalized intersections and street lighting work.
-Advise and make recommendations to other city and state agencies regarding traffic signal and street lighting projects.
-Review and approve shop drawings and catalogue cuts for construction. Maintain records of drawings, plans, maps, surveys and inspections data.

Hours/Shift: 35 Hrs./ Mon- Fri/ 8:00am - 4:00pm

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

ASSISTANT ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - 20310

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; or

2. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college and a master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.

A master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in electrical engineering. A degree in any other engineering area, or in any engineering technology area, is not acceptable.

Preferred Skills

-Candidate should be detailed orientated, accurate, and have excellent verbal and strong writing communication skills.
-Candidate should have the ability to work effectively with others and collaborate in a team environment.
-Candidate should be proficient in AutoCAD and have strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
-Preference will be given to candidate who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York with no restrictions. This license must be maintained throughout duration of employment in this position.
