The Department of Surgery at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Sciences. The individual will train under the supervision of Dr. Giovanni Ferrari in the development of Implantable Biomaterials in pediatric patients and participation in the Heart Perfusion Research Program.

Responsibilites:



  • Train in cell culture, flow cytometry, fluorescence-activated cell sorting, polymer processing.
  • Train in the technical skills of data collection, statistical analysis and manuscript writing.
  • Present research results and prepare manuscripts for peer review and publication in professional journals.
  • Perform literature searches, manage data, analyze experimental results and published data.
  • Participate in the development of an extramurally funded research program by assisting PI with NIH grant by developing and generating data and figures.
  • Provide expertise and input on collaborative grant proposals.
  • Participate in clinical outcome research in the field of study.
  • Other activities as assigned related to the research program of Dr. Ferrari.
  • Species contact includes pigs, rodents , and mice including animal blood & bodily fluids.
  • Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious agents and biological toxins.


  • PhD or MD


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in research projects related to heart valves and/or aortic diseases,
  • Knowledge in heart valve biology and vascular surgery
