OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is looking for an experienced Senior Electrical I&C Designer for our Greenwood Village, CO office. This position supports Nuclear Services and Technology (NST) projects related to Department of Energy (DOE) work. Client projects for this position requires U.S. Citizenship.

This team specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely-operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. Additional specialization includes the design of moderate hazard non-reactor nuclear facilities and facility upgrades.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for electrical design, be able and willing to perform CAD as well as design of electrical and instrumentation/controls systems, be nimble in accepting a wide range of assignments both nuclear and non-nuclear and enjoy a team design environment.

This is a hybrid position. Salary range is $83,600 to $108,000 depending on experience.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Electrical -I&C Designer will perform some design and layout of electrical, instrumentation, and controls equipment and wiring during the production of CAD documents, and coordinates with other Electrical or I&C Engineers and designers. Work involves a variety of activities including conceptual and detailed design of low voltage and medium voltage power distribution, lighting, grounding, motor control systems, process equipment and instrumentation.

  • Performs non-routine assignments with little or no direction.
  • Receives general direction, then exercises independent judgment and initiative. Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected.

Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems.

  • Prepares and checks working drawings or calculations of complexity, or layouts and arrangements requiring independent judgment.
  • Produces and manages the discipline's CAD documents and models for a project using an expert working knowledge of the CAD software.
  • Routinely performs design, layout, and interdisciplinary coordination in the production process of the documents.
  • Will serve as the project design lead on small to medium sized projects and tasks.
  • Proficient with power distribution layouts
  • Proficient with 3D Modeling
  • Experience in Power plans drawings
  • Experience in Cable tray and conduit routing
  • Control system / Control Panel layouts and design
  • Junction box layouts and wiring
  • Point to point wiring diagrams / Loop drawings
  • Field experience a plus
  • Starting to demonstrate technical advancement and/or specialization.
  • May have some involvement with proposals and construction estimates.
  • Provides a role in mentoring less experienced staff
  • May recommend and implement actions

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 8 years of experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of technical principles and practices
  • Expert working knowledge of at least one CAD platform
