Overview:

Egan Company is actively seeking a talented and motivated Controls Engineer to join our Process & Manufacturing Controls team in Champlin, Minnesota. In this dynamic role, you will play a key part in delivering high-quality automated control solutions to a diverse range of industrial clients across manufacturing, process, and related sectors. You will be responsible for designing, programming, implementing, and servicing sophisticated automated controls systems from concept through commissioning and ongoing support. Working closely with project teams and directly with clients, you will translate process requirements into reliable, efficient, and safe control architectures using PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial networks, and related automation hardware and software. Responsibilities:

  • Maintain proactive customer contact throughout the project lifecycle from concept to commissioning and post support, ensuring alignment, clear communication, and exceptional satisfaction.
  • Design and engineer industrial process control systems by integrating new and legacy hardware and software to deliver reliable, scalable solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair existing control systems onsite or remotely to diagnose issues quickly, and minimize downtime.
  • Program, configure, and debug PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, servos, VFDs, and networks with strong emphasis on Rockwell/Allen Bradley platforms and exposure to others like Siemens or Ignition.
  • Work independently within your expertise to deliver high quality solutions on time and within scope while collaborating effectively with teams, vendors, and clients.
  • Apply UL 508A standards for control panel design, layout, component selection, wiring, and documentation to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Support sales by developing technical solutions and proposals that address client requirements, demonstrate value, and enhance operational efficiency.


Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Engineering degree or equivalent design and programming experience.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years experience in related fields In depth expertise with Rockwell Automation platforms (highly preferred); familiarity with Siemens, Schneider, Wonderware, Ignition, or similar is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC/HMI/SCADA programming, servo and VFD configuration, industrial networking protocols, electrical schematics, and panel layouts.
  • Understanding of UL 508A control panel standards and industrial control components.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (required); Google Suite beneficial.


Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and Education: Strong understanding of industrial process control systems, including integration of new and legacy hardware/software components.
  • In depth knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, servo motors, and VFDs. Understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, DeviceNet) and electrical schematics and panel layouts.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills for independent troubleshooting in complex field or remote scenarios.
  • Strong customer service focus with proven communication skills for ongoing client interaction, technical documentation, presentations, and sales support.
  • Ability to work autonomously on projects while thriving in team and client facing settings.
  • Self motivated with solid organizational skills to handle multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 10%


Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid model blending office/remote work in Champlin, MN (design, programming, collaboration) with hands on field service at client sites.
  • Office and shop tasks include computer based engineering, team meetings, and panel testing and inspection.
  • Field environments may include moderate noise, temperature variations, and production hazards; PPE provided and required.
  • Physical demands include extended standing and walking, climbing stairs and ladders, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs (tools/parts).

Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000 (subject to such factors as experience, education, and/or skill set) plus potential annual discretionary bonus.
