Position Summary:

The Firmware Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading the development of embedded software and firmware for active implant systems and neuromodulation product development programs. This individual will work with a multi-disciplinary engineering team including software, electrical and mechanical hardware engineers, and all other functions of the company to ensure high quality and on-time product introductions. This team leader will have experience with multi-tasking in a high energy fast paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate design, implementation and testing of embedded software and firmware for internal platform development and external customer programs
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and leadership to firmware engineering team to foster a collaborative and high-performance environment
  • Oversee and direct the work of contractors assigned to the project
  • Serve as a technical lead to ensure firmware designs meet customer requirements, performance targets and reliability standards and participate in technical reviews
  • Create and review embedded software architecture, requirements specifications, development plans, verification/validation plans
  • Communicate directly with customers to understand project and product needs, and support the development teams in presenting technical updates, risks and issues
  • Oversee creation and maintenance of software related technical documentation required for medical product Design and Development Files.
  • Oversee planning and execution of prototype/board bring-ups, debugging and troubleshooting, verification testing and validations to ensure robust product performance and reliability
  • Work with other managers to ensure appropriate technical resources have been assigned and additional talent needs are identified in a timely manner
  • Support business development and program management teams with determination of project scope, timeline, and/or budget and assist in the preparation of project plans, proposals and change orders
  • Lead continuous improvement of company's design and development processes and influence strategic technological initiatives
  • Participate in product development meetings and software/hardware design and risk analysis reviews

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or in another equivalent STEM discipline)
  • Minimum 10 years' experience required in development and testing of embedded software and firmware
  • Experience in managing software engineering and development teams highly desired
  • Experience in development of electronics and embedded systems for active implantable medical devices and/or other complex medical devices highly desired
  • Must be familiar with medical development and regulatory standards such as IEC 60601, IEC 62304, ISO 14708 and FDA 21CFR regulations around software development
  • Working knowledge of electronics; analog, power and digital, oscilloscopes, and general electronic test equipment.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills

Salary Range: $130,000 to 180,000 based on skills and experience.
