SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of the Endocrinology Attending Physician, in collaboration with Hasbro Brown University Health Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, the Nurse Practitioner - Endocrinology and Diabetes is responsible for evaluation of, and development of treatment plans for the care of ambulatory patients. Assists in the care and management of endocrinology patients to include, but not limited to, history and physical, ongoing assessment and intervention, coordination of care post emergency room visits or hospital discharge. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patient. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Successfully performs and models Brown University Health's shared values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence in support of its mission: "Delivering Health with Care". Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Demonstrates a fundamental grounding in nursing theory and practice with mastery of knowledge within a defined content area.

Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings. Adheres to established clinical session requirements.

Provides direct care to patients in the ambulatory setting.

Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.

Provides leadership in the development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model. Performs direct patient care at the outpatient offices in accordance with State licensure and Federal rules.

Performs phone triage for patient problems/questions for patients under his/her care, and for other patients as requested by physicians.

Continually updates the Endocrinology physicians on the status of certain patients that do require their continued evaluation. Oversees care coordination in the ambulatory care settings, as feasible.

Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education and encouragement.

Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.

Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.

Participates in the education, clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers.

Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.

Annually completes mandatory training as assigned Prescriptive privileges per licensure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Masters of Science Degree, Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Specialty certification required.

Baccalaureate in Nursing

Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

EXPERIENCE:

Two years related experience as RN in acute care hospital or ambulatory care

Prior experience with Endocrinology and Diabetes highly preferred.

  • Additional Job Description - Experience with endocrinology patients including skills teaching growth hormone therapy and other endocrine conditions including congenital hypothyroidism and other thyroid disorders, disorders of puberty and management with GnRH analogs among others.

Pay Range:

$127,504.00-$161,782.40
