Why This Role Matters

The Accounting Manager plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health and regulatory compliance of UKFCU as it relates to accounting and internal controls of the organization. By overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls, this role supports informed decision-making at every level of the organization. From leading audits to assisting with the long-term financial strategy, the Accounting Manager ensures transparency, accountability, and financial integrity while empowering a high-performing accounting team.



What You'll Do

Core Responsibilities



  • Oversee the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including cash management, GL reconciliation, fixed asset tracking, and monthly close.


  • Ensure the integrity of all financial reporting and regulatory filings including NCUA 5300 Call Reports, IRS tax filings, and year-end member and vendor reporting.


  • Coordinate all internal and external audit functions, including financial audits, state exams, and independent reviews.


  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and NCUA regulations by maintaining appropriate internal controls, documentation, and segregation of duties.


  • Provide strategic support to the CFO through financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to guide executive-level decisions.


  • Collaborate cross-functionally with departments to support project planning, cost analysis, and operational efficiencies.


  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting policies, procedures, and systems to scale with organizational growth.


  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff through performance coaching, skills development, and career growth planning.


  • Ensure the credit union's finances are prepared accurately and transparently to stakeholders including the Board, examiners, and auditors.



Qualifications

Who You Are

Experience & Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience in financial institutions, public accounting, or other regulated industries preferred.


Skills & Strengths



  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.


  • Experience preparing for and managing internal and external audits.


  • Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.


  • Skilled in accounting systems (e.g., Fiserv, Jack Henry, or similar) and advanced Excel functions.


  • Familiarity with credit union operations and NCUA regulatory expectations is a plus.

This position allows for an optional hybrid work arrangement which includes a combination of both in-office and remote work arrangements. (Maximum of two days remote, three days in-office). To be eligible for the program, employees must complete a minimum of 90 days of continuous, regular employment, be in good standing, and submit a formal hybrid work application prior to being eligible for hybrid work, pending supervisor approval. Work schedules will be established by the employee's supervisor according to business needs. Working locations and schedules may be altered at management discretion.
