SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

JOB TITLE: Dir Strategic Engineering
REQUISITION: NUC00EH
DEPARTMENT: System Engineering
LOCATION: Wolf Creek - Clyde Cessna
PAY RANGE: 18C Min - 149,600-199,400

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports directly to the Vice President Engineering and is responsible for providing overall program technical and administrative direction for the Engineering staff which includes the following areas of expertise: Strategic Engineering which includes the following groups Nuclear Steam Supply Systems, Balance of Plant Systems, Electrical and Instrumentation Systems, Components, Plant Reliability and Engineering Fix-It-Now.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide senior level leadership and set high standards for all strategic engineering functions at WCGS.
* Provide strategic guidance to Engineering which aligns with corporate competencies and supports the long range Plant Reliability.
* Prepare and maintain capital and O&M budgets ensuring good cost control techniques are used in the division.
* Drive continuous improvement through the use of corrective action, self-assessment and other programs.
* Advocate for proactive use of Operating Experience use to prevent consequential events.
* Monitor performance indicators to gauge performance and needed improvement.
* Conduct, coordinate and/or participate in meetings with inspectors from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and other regulatory agencies.
* Fulfill the responsibilities of a quorum member for the Plant Health Committee, Outage Review Board, Plant Safety Review Committee and Corrective Action Review Board.
* Reinforce strong Plant Reliability behaviors throughout the station.
* Perform other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
* This position requires a BS degree in engineering and eight years of relevant experience or a MS degree in engineering and six years of relevant experience or a PhD in engineering and four years of relevant experience. Three years of leadership experience is also required.
* Relevant experience is defined as experience at an operating nuclear facility with increasing levels of responsibility.
* Curriculum must be accredited by the accreditation board for engineering and technology (ABET). Any other baccalaureate engineering curriculum that has not been accredited by ABET but has been evaluated and found to be of an equivalent standard that may be reviewed and accepted by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions is acceptable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTATIONS:
* A Senior Reactor Operators license is preferred

* This position requires the ability to: read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents; respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints; write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style; make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
* This position requires the ability to: work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
* This position requires the ability to: apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases; deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
