Job Family Description

Engineering roles perform engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments. They may design and scale up manufacturing processes, instruments and equipment and tests manufactured products to maintain quality. They may plan, design, and estimate time and cost and oversees construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, systems, and components. They analyze and develop solutions to engineering problems related to manufacturing equipment and systems or the causes of component failures. They develop and apply engineering standards and procedures and provide advice on issues within the engineering field.

Discipline Description

Engineering - Multidiscipline personnel typically manage a multidiscipline group of engineers. Responsibilities are within the Engineering Function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Direct and manage engineering and technical support for Reservoir systems assigned to the group. This support includes management of the implementation of gas transfer system (GTS) Design Agency requirements from Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory, also known as Product Definition, for any weapon system related activity into operating procedures. This role occasionally serves as a technical interface with NNSA, SRNL, and GTS Design Agencies as well as Nuclear Weapons Complex site program managers for SRS weapons related technical activities. Provides technically accurate solutions to emergent problems to ensure that NNSA, DoW, GTS Design Agencies, and site goals are met in a timely and cost-effective manner. Ensure SRTE operations meet technical requirements while operating within the approved SRTE Safety Basis. Responsible for technical measures to ensure the capability of the facility to meet current and future stockpile needs, meeting Design Agency needs, initiating technology and/or project initiatives to accomplish required tasks, and performing risk assessment analysis activities for current and new product. This role occasionally develops budgets and schedules for SRS commitments to weapons programs. This position will qualify for and serve as an on-call technical advisor for the facility during any situation which requires activation of the site Emergency Response Organization (ERO) on a rotating basis. Provides mentoring to less senior engineering personnel. Ensures reservoir system engineers understand their systems' relevance to GTS performance and quality.

Major Responsibilities
Obtain safety training, obey safety rules, and make safety an integral part of each employee's task. Assess the safety implications of direction provided to Operations and Maintenance through procedures and work instructions. Take necessary steps to stop work or take a time out if continuing the job is unsafe or will create an unsafe condition. Ensure SRTE operations meet GTS Design Agency Product Definition requirements while operating within the approved SRTE Safety Basis. Participates actively in the SRTE safety programs.

Ensure that all employees are familiar with SRS and SRTE security rules, policies, and procedures. Emphasize the importance of security in meeting NNSA and site goals. Ensure System Engineering personnel have a working knowledge of classification guides, and that DC/RO's have access to the guides. Ensure that personnel understand their responsibilities regarding classified computing, CREM, and protection of classified passwords. Ensure that all technical communications are properly reviewed for classified information.

Team with all SRTE departments to continue flawless delivery of all DoW GTS components produced at SRS. Direct and manage engineering and technical support for SRTE production of GTS. This support includes management of the implementation of GTS Product Definition requirements for weapon system related activity into operating procedures. Employ advanced engineering techniques to meet production goals in all areas of responsibility in a cost-effective manner. Support the facility managers to improve process efficiency and product quality. Review and approve operating, maintenance, and administrative procedures.

Initiate and support required projects to ensure current and future Design Agency and nuclear weapons complex requirements are met. Perform functions to support the modifications manager of such projects.

Manage and direct the activities and professional development of the group through interaction with the engineers to convey job requirements and performance expectations. Monitor the activities and progress of the engineers in relation to their performance assessment and assist them as necessary to ensure that they have every opportunity to meet and exceed their goals. Evaluate the engineers' performance throughout each review period and properly document their achievements and opportunities for development. Ensure engineers are occasionally free/able to participate on complex wide teams. Ensure that the reservoir system engineers understand their systems' relevance to GTS functionality and quality.

Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and assurance of the Tritium Facility's compliance with DOE Orders, guidelines, and regulations by performing periodic assessments, assessing compliance with requirements, and recommending corrective actions to improve compliance. Must be able to describe technical requirements, limitations, and develop sound engineering decisions. Use persuasion in a tactful and diplomatic manner to obtain customer concurrence with proposed activities. Develop and maintain a trusting, open relationship with the NNSA, Design Agency, and SRTE Operations customers.

Support training and qualification efforts for SRTE by ensuring that training resources are technically correct and that personnel completing training and qualification have the necessary technical understanding to perform their assigned duties safely and successfully. Assign engineers to serve as subject matter experts in the development of training materials, to occasionally participate in operator oral boards, and occasionally act as trainers in their area(s) of expertise. Serve as the technical management representative in Shift Operations Manager, Supervisor, and Lead Operator oral boards. Present SRTE capabilities to potential customers, review boards, and design teams as requested by preparing and delivering presentations on the capabilities of SRTE to process tritium and to take on new tritium missions.

Required Qualifications

* Eight or more years of experience (YOE) as an individual contributor in one or more of the roles managed, OR Bachelor's Degree in an engineering field plus five or more years of experience (YOE) in one or more of the roles managed, OR Master's Degree in a relevant field plus three or more year of experience (YOE) in one or more of the roles managed
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

Security Clearance Information
