Lab Support Supervisor - Bellingham, WA, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Pay range: $69,306.00 - $104,720.00 / year

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

The supervisor is accountable for the accuracy and reliability of all laboratory services provided by the specialty department section under his/her immediate control; directs the supervision, training and development of section personnel; plans and schedules the activities of the section; assumes responsibility for the proper application of laboratory policies and procedures; and operates the section on a cost-effective basis and within budgetary constraints. The incumbent actively supports and complies with all company and departmental policies and procedures.



Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for daily phlebotomy and specimen management operations within a hospital setting.
  • Implements SOPs for phlebotomy and specimen management in accordance with CAP, CLIA and institutional policies.
  • Where applicable, ensures all Federal, State & local licensure requirements are met, working with QA/Medical Director/Lab Manager.
  • Ensures all Laboratory testing QA/QC documentation is complete and reviewed as required.
  • Ensures high-quality patient care with accurate specimen collection and destination of specimen within the lab or transported to a reference lab.
  • Oversees safety, maintenance, and cleanliness of facilities (including upgrades, repairs, etc.)
  • Supervises and coordinates daily activities with staff members.
  • Oversees inventory process for supervised areas.
  • Participates in the interview, selection and hiring of new employees.
  • Responsible for training, coaching, supervision, and development of staff.
  • Monitors on-going performance of employees; provides corrective action and counseling as required. Performs annual performance appraisals.
  • Holds regularly scheduled meetings for dissemination of all information to staff.
  • Tracks/enters time/attendance of employees.
  • Prepares schedules with minimal overtime for employees. Maintains adequate coverage for both departments.
  • Investigates/resolves and responds to S2S appropriately/effectively/timely.
  • Responsible to ensure Quest/PH improvement and/or standardization initiatives are implemented.
  • Assists in preparation of annual budget for areas of responsibility. Maintain budget control throughout the year in areas of responsibility.
  • Supervisor participates to assure fiscal responsibilities of the department are met. This includes implementation of cost containment programs, management of overtime, and participation in standardization initiatives and needs assessment for capital expenditures.
  • Participates on process improvement teams, or other initiatives to meet management objectives.
  • Organizes and leads projects both within the workgroup and with cross-functional groups. May be required to give presentations and speak in groups.
  • Collaborate with laboratory and clinical teams.
  • Demonstrates and lives the Values of Quest Diagnostics.
  • All other duties as assigned, within scope of the position.



Qualifications:

Required Work Experience:

  • Minimum three years' experience in specimen management or phlebotomy.

Preferred Work Experience:

  • Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively with physicians, hospital and company leadership, staff, and customers.
  • Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high-volume and dynamic team environment.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient PC skills including experience using MS Office applications.
  • Must be able to make decisions based on established procedures and exercise consistent, independent, sound judgment.
